This Senior Scientist role is recognized to be an interdisciplinary effort between engineering, analytical, and formulation functions and will report through Analytical Research and Development (ARD). ARD scientists work in multi-functional teams to inform formulation and manufacturing process selection to advance projects through all phases of development.

The successful candidate will focus on PAT (Process Analytical Technology) implementation of on-line/in-line/at-line measurements during drug product manufacturing to inform formulation and process development efforts and assist in the determination of robust commercial control strategies through improved process understanding.

Additionally, the role will include a focus on PAT development, project management across functional boundaries, use of disparate equipment as well as accountability for software and infrastructure selection, deployment and maintenance.

  • Own the accountability for PAT installations including instrument selection, procurement, interfacing with processing equipment, maintenance, and application optimization
  • Develop and execute a plan to store, share and analyze multivariate process and analytical data to provide long-term value to process development and manufacturing teams
  • Collaboration with internal subject matter experts to deliver PAT methods (NIR,Raman, particle size) and data models to support manufacturing unit operations though collaborative efforts and individual technical contributions
  • Author and review technical documents, driving cross-site standardization efforts
  • Seek opportunities for innovative solutions, proactively addressing technical development challenges
  • Work with cross-functional teams to provide deeper understanding of properties/process/product performance relationships using appropriate PAT tools and models
  • Work closely with formulation scientists and process engineers on implementation of PAT tools including training and troubleshooting

*Level of role will be based on education & years of experience*

  • Bachelor's Degree (and 12+ years of experience), Master's Degree (and 10+ years of experience), or PhD (and 4+ years of experience) in Chemistry, Physical Sciences, Mathematics or Engineering required
  • Understanding of NIR, Raman, particle size and other measurement techniques that are suitable for inline/ at-line analysis
  • Understanding of processing equipment used in pharmaceutical drug product unit operations
  • Experience with statistics, chemometrics, and programming and data modeling packages such as Unscrambler
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Direct experience in the development of PAT methods and data models, statistical data analysis and the evaluation of new on-line/at-line/in-line technologies to support drug product process development is highly desired
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience strongly preferred
