The Clinical Budget Specialist/Senior Clinical Budget Specialist is an individual contributor who works under limited supervision and guidance of management. This position interacts frequently with R&D business teams/functional areas including Finance, OEC, Legal, Outsourcing Contract Coordinators to draft clinical study agreement budgets for utilization globally. They are also expected to identifying and resolving issues that arise to ensure final budget is compliant with pricing, and reflects the procedures required to support Abbvie's clinical trials.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Economically and efficiently partner with AbbVie R&D to build clinical study agreement budgets in compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Able to provide strategic insights to building budgets with difficult contract situations, i.e., complex clinical protocols, academic center agreements, etc.
  • Understand cost drivers associated with clinical study budgets along with a solid understanding of grant planning tools and/or ICD-10 codes.
  • Responsible for appropriate utilization of templates and budgeting tools/systems where applicable and maintain necessary documentation for all contract types as required by AbbVie policies and procedures to ensure contract compliance.
  • Responsible for communication of status of budget building status with key internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner. Also responsible for the timely communication of issues to stakeholders that could impact project timelines. Work closely with TA/FA's, Legal, OEC and suppliers to resolve contract issues.
  • Demonstrates a high level of outsourcing and technical competencies across multiple contract types and therapeutic/functional areas. Highly competent in negotiation and contracting business standards.
  • Will mentor/train junior staff members within the work team.
  • Identify and participates in ongoing process improvement initiatives when appropriate.
  • Promote AbbVie as the partner of choice in all external communications and dealings to build the AbbVie brand.

  • BA/BS is required; Science degree is preferred but not required.
  • Expertise with grant planning tools and/or ICD-10 codes and excel is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience with 2 years of clinical budget experience.
  • Must have demonstrated ability in negotiation skills, project management skills and effective communication and relationship management abilities. Contract budget experience in scientific setting is highly preferred.
  • Must have attention to detail along with an understanding of the quality/compliance environment.
  • Customer support focused expertise is highly desirable.
