An associate scientist position is available within the Cell Culture group of the Process Sciences Department at AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA. The group is responsible for developing and supporting cell culture manufacturing processes for early and late phase clinical programs. We strive for speedy delivery of quality processes that are high yield, manufacturing friendly and robust with desirable product quality attributes. The group interacts closely with Cell Line Development, Purification, Scale-up Lab, and Protein Analytics within the S&T Operations organization. Outside of the department, the group interacts closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Discovery. We are seeking a creative scientist who shares our passion of making remarkable impact on our patients' lives by doing great science and making tangible contributions to the continuous improvement and innovation within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Executes experiments in process research, development and characterization.
  • Performs data acquisition and analysis in a timely manner. Identifies trends, patterns, draws conclusions, and formulates new hypothesis while working with senior members of the group.
  • Documents work appropriately in lab notebooks and technical memos.
  • Assists in technical transfer to manufacturing, manufacturing support and troubleshooting.
  • Prepares and delivers comprehensive technical presentations.
  • Performs routine tasks independently.
  • Understands and adheres to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, and GMP compliance.


  • B.S. or M.S. degree in biochemical/chemical engineering or life sciences related disciplines.
  • 0-3 years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, preferably related to biologics process development or manufacturing support.
  • Experience working with bioreactors and their controllers highly desirable.
  • Basic knowledge in related functional areas, such as purification, protein analytics, CMC, and/or regulatory would be beneficial.
  • Candidate must be a goal oriented team player with excellent communication skills.
