Description:

AbbVie Oncology is currently offering a unique opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our Translational Oncology-Pathology team to play a key role in a multi-disciplinary team focused on developing new therapies and translational biomarkers for cancer treatment. As an integral member of the Translational Oncology-Pathology team, the individual will develop and drive IHC biomarker strategies as part of a world-class immunohistochemistry resource to support the AbbVie pipeline. Investigate, identify, develop novel methods and drive tissue based biomarker assays including immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in-situ hybridization (ISH) biomarker assay development to support the AbbVie Oncology pipeline. Act as a lead scientist in his/her area of expertise, critically evaluate relevant scientific advances and integrate this knowledge into research or development programs. The individual will interface with internal and external biology, genomics/proteomics, in vivo and toxicology teams to deliver novel clinical candidates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and drive IHC biomarker assay development for colorimetric and/or multiplex fluorescence platforms.
  • Support target screening for multiple programs with internal and external collaborators to identify biomarkers and indications for clinical development.
  • Integrate complex data sets including RNA, DNA, protein (various platforms such as microarray, ISH, IHC etc) from preclinical models, procured tissues and patient samples to support target validation and biomarker development efforts.
  • Explore, develop and establish new technologies to support small molecule and biologics programs, e.g. multiplex IHC, image analysis etc
  • Collaborate with a diverse set of scientists from histology/pathology, in vivo, molecular biology, cancer biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biostatistics and clinical backgrounds to generate impactful hypotheses for biomarker development.
  • Manage multiple collaborations (internal and external work requests, contracts, etc).
  • Demonstrate the ability to support key project questions/needs by proactively seeking new information in the literature, effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise to incorporate this into individual project(s) as well as the overall program.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug, GxP compliance, and animal care where applicable.
  • Technical leadership skills to mentor team members, guide and evaluate the performance of those individuals.


Grade level and title commensurate with experience.

Basic:

  • BS, MS, or Ph.D. in biology or similar field with 14+ (BS), 12+ (MS), or 6+ (Ph.D) years relevant experience. Grade level and title commensurate with experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in immunohistochemistry, IHC/ISH antibody applications, image analysis, in vitro and/or in vivo assays, genomic data and literature mining, disease/biological pathway analysis, and biomarker development.
  • Strong communication skills with preparing and presenting data to scientists with diverse scientific backgrounds required. Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must have 3+ years experience in IHC, antibody selection and optimization of IHC protocols (FFPE and OCT).


Preferred:

  • MD and/or DVM or PhD in a relevant field with 6-8+ years' experience, oncology R&D experience in the pharmaceutical industry, academia or equivalent.
  • Strong pathology background required and digital pathology experience with relevant cancer biology, biomarker research background and clinical pathology experience is highly preferred.
  • Oncology experience in the areas of apoptosis, DNA repair, epigenetics, ADC, biologics therapies, immuno-oncology desired.
  • Good grasp of drug discovery, clinical development, biochemistry, molecular biology, cancer biology and related subjects is a plus.
  • Research, scientific and program management experience a plus.
