o Conduct biochemical and biophysical characterization of protein reagents, to analyze purity, integrity, binding activity, and solution phase behavior using gel electrophoresis, Westerns or related methods, LC/MS, light scattering and related techniques

o Characterize protein structure, stability, and aggregation state, using technologies such as microcalorimetry, spectroscopy, light scattering, analytical ultracentrifugation, etc.

o Develop and run SPR and other biosensor-based binding assays for characterization of protein/ligand and protein/protein interactions

o Demonstrate solution binding of proteins with small molecule ligands, and determine binding affinity and stoichiometry, using microcalorimetry and related methods

o Communicate results written and verbally to supervisor and group team members

o Maintain a complete and current Electronic Laboratory Notebook

o Participate on multidisciplinary project teams

o Plan and carry out experimental studies, analyze and interpret data, and communicate conclusions with teams

o Present own work within and outside the group

B.S. with 3-5 years or M.S. with 1-3 years relevant experience in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Analytical Chemistry or related field, preferably including experience in a Biotech, Pharma or Biopharma setting.
  • Experience with quantitative analysis of protein-protein interactions using BIAcore surface plasmon resonance (SPR) or related biosensor techniques, including kinetics and affinity, microcalorimetry or related methods, and light scattering is necessary.
  • Experience with protein analytical characterization techniques such as SDS-PAGE, analytical size exclusion chromatography (SEC), liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS), is preferred.
  • Experience with biophysical characterization of proteins such as oligomeric structure and stability using microcalorimetry, fluorescence or other spectroscopy, light scattering or other related technologies would also be an advantage.
  • Experience with recombinant protein purification experience including method development, optimization and troubleshooting would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills, evidence of innovative thinking, and ability/potential to function at a high level in a matrixed environment is expected.
  • Additional skills/experience that would be advantageous: familiarity with automation, electronic lab notebook or LIMS systems, protein structure.
