Job Summary:

The Manager of Equipment Maintenance will be organized and responsible for managing the maintenance staff for all Production and QC related equipment. The ideal candidate will understand mechanical, electrical, controls and technical work; have excellent leadership and supervisory skills and will manage and oversee all daily maintenance activities including delegation of tasks, tracking mechanical performance, and directing the processes of any necessary repairs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, evaluate and make recommendations to upgrade maintenance operations and/or implement saving opportunities
  • Perform routine and non-routine equipment maintenance, modification and repairs in a timely basis
  • Create and implement an effective preventative maintenance program
  • Forecast budget for the maintenance department and monitor throughout the year
  • Document repairs, adjustments and replacement of equipment per SOP’s and cGMP regulations
  • Write and update SOP’s, as needed
  • Negotiate, maintain, and review contract for all third party contractors
  • Complete and coordinate with department heads all repairs, as necessary, to offset downtime and production delays
  • Ensure that all work performed by vendors is billed correctly and within budget
  • Respond immediately to all emergency situations
  • Assist maintenance contractors if applicable in troubleshooting of equipment
  • Order parts and components for repairs as needed
  • Assist with the organization and inventory of spare parts
  • Maintain a clean and well organized maintenance room
  • Provide after hours on call support including holidays
  • Must follow all safety rules and ensure compliance

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years’ work experience, or
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience in an industrial manufacturing or regulated environment
  • Experience in the Pharmaceuticals or related industry
  • At least 8 years’ experience in facilities maintenance: including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, refrigeration, and/or equipment
  • Knowledge of cGMP manufacturing and basic chemical safety procedures
  • Experience with Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Experience with Automation, PLC's, SCADA, Controls, and Vision systems
  • Demonstrated ability in preventive maintenance, TPM, capital project development, cost estimation and management
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint
  • Ability to effectively organize, multitask, and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven work environment
  • Ability to communicate in a proactive and solution-focused manner, including keeping management aware of potential issues
  • Detail oriented with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical and analytical problems
  • Ability to work independently and manage one’s time
  • Communicate effectively and ability to function well in a team environment


  • Familiarity of standard laboratory practices
  • Familiar with Environmental Health and Safety regulations
  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering)

Environmental Conditions:

Within the facility, the employee will experience normal office conditions with a well- lighted work area and minor noise from standard office equipment. Occasionally the employee will experience unpleasant odors from the manufacturing facility. On a daily basis, the employee will visit the manufacturing facility several times. Lab coat and goggles will be required for these visits. The employee will constantly experience laboratory hazards. Very occasionally, the employee will be called upon to address emergency situations.
