Field Engineering Specialist – Tucson, Arizona

Essential Functions

  • Provide customer support through the performance of on-site installation, as well as overseeing any necessary diagnoses, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex equipment and systems.
  • Evaluate and approve operational quality of system equipment
  • Documents and addresses customer complaints following FDA guidelines.
  • Ensure field service reports are closed in a timely manner.
  • Support the Operations team in build & test of instrument sub-assemblies and instruments.
  • Review, follow, and update documentation for build and service of instruments- Service Procedures, Manufacturing Work Instructions, etc.   
  • Facilitate, coordinate, or conduct technical training as needed.
  • On-call support may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related. Combination of education and/or experience can be substituted for the degree.
  • Must be proficient with the design, operation, and test of electromechanical equipment.
  • Tucson based but able to travel to customer sites up to 25% of time traveling to customer sites.
  • Experience with IVD equipment desired.
  • 2 years’ experience in an engineering support role - demonstrating troubleshooting and repair of software, electronic, mechanical, or computer devices preferred. 
  • Experience with FDA regulations preferred.
  • Possess good communication, organizational, logical thinking skills and presentation skills.
  • Ability to diagnose, investigate and solve complex problems and be able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines when required. 
  • Ability to communicate unfamiliar ideas and solutions easily to users with little or no technical knowledge. 

Physical Requirements/Environment

Some weekend and evening work may be required in order to meet deadlines. Work is indoors in a seasonally heated and air-conditioned environment.  The position is primarily sedentary but, requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
