The Development Program Team Leader will provide strategic and operational leadership of cross-functional program development activities in Late Stage Clinical Development while applying program management best practices in the development, initiation, planning, execution, control, and closing of projects within a program. The Development Program Team Leader will act as a communication liaison of program information to key stakeholders while insuring alignment between project plans, functional stakeholders and alliance partners as required. This person will lead the team to develop and recommend the program strategy, timing, budget and measurable milestones as well as partner with the development core program team to identify program challenges and risks and to develop and propose contingency plans to mitigate the identified risks in a proactive and timely manner.




Program Management

  • Apply project management best practices in leading and managing program operational activities
  • Operational day-to-day oversight of multiple projects within a program
  • Manage and drive the development and execution of high-quality, realistic, cross-functional strategic plans / timelines
  • Accountable for the Integrated Program Plan (Program Development Plan and Gantt) and its vision as the single source of project and program information
  • Ensure global, cross functional thinking and appropriate analytical rigor in the development of team and program strategies
  • Proactively identify impediments to team effectiveness and drive the development of related solutions.  Ensure team commitment to team effectiveness improvements.
  • Manage and drive the development of all cross-functional team deliverables (Contracts, Goals, Mgmt. Reports, Team Charters, Publication Plans etc.)
  • Drive preparation of Governance Board deliverables and ensure implementation of decisions
  • Manage operational aspects of team meetings and Review Board meetings
  • Contributor in program management / executive teams that brainstorm, develop and implement new or improved business processes or tools that add value or increase efficiency in advancing development programs
  • Drive implementation and compliance of new or improved processes that have been commissioned by executive stakeholders to program team

Cross-functional Communication and Alignment

  • Develop, manage, and communicate the program plan and ensure alignment with integrated project plans & functional plans
  • Ensure cross-functional alignment between project and functional strategies and plans
  • Escalate program and team issues to stakeholders, as appropriate
  • Drive the development of team communication plans (internal/external)
  • Serve as the single point of contact for program information with functional & executive stakeholders

Alliance / Partnership Management (as applicable)

  • Conduct and manage routine partnership meetings
  • Manage key partnership contract deliverables

Risk Management

  • Conduct program level scenario planning and risk analysis. Drive the development of contingency and risk mitigation plans
  • Provide oversight in project level scenario planning and risk analysis

Resource Management

  • Drive cross-functional resource, financial and capacity assessments
  • Negotiate with functional heads to manage resource gaps. Ensure program has appropriate resources (both FTE and $) to achieve program and project deliverables
  • Develop & manage project budgets across all functions to deliver on approved Mirati program budgets


  • PhD (Preferred) or BS/MS in a scientific discipline with experience leading development teams, or related experience
  • 10+ years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry with focus on Oncology
  • 5+ years of experience leading multi-disciplinary development teams in the execution of operational plans; ideally across multiple functional areas and various development phases
  • Proven project management and leadership experience/training
  • Strong understanding of drug development strategies, across all critical product development disciplines (nonclinical, clinical, CMC, RA/QA)
  • Requires flexible work schedule to accommodate program priorities as needed
