The Director- Innovation, Oral Product Science & Technology (OPST), is critical to shaping and driving oral product innovation strategy enabling best in class operational performance. The Director is also responsible for managing a team of scientists on technical aspects of driving portfolio, developing and optimizing business processes, and fostering strong cross-functional and strategic partnerships to achieve scientific excellence and business objectives.

  • The selected candidate will be responsible for identifying and integrating scientific innovation to enable end-to-end development of the oral product portfolio in OPST.
  • Emphasis will be on developing strategy, building alignment with key stakeholders, and execution of the strategy leading to on-boarding and driving scientific innovation in analytical, product and process technology capabilities and packaging to enable speed to clinic and speed to market.
  • The candidate will be responsible for keeping abreast with scientific advances in next generation products; for driving a culture of innovation and managing change around successful implementation and adaptation of scientific innovation.
  • The candidate will build, lead, motivate and manage a team of experienced scientists to develop formulations and processes to progress oral product portfolio. The candidate will maintain a strong, collaborative relationship with all key stakeholders within and outside Product Development (PD) and other functions key to the success of DPST and PD.
  • The individual will also be responsible for driving people management strategy.

  • Education preferred is Ph.D. or equivalent degree in pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical/chemical engineering or related discipline with 14+ years of relevant experience in the Pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven innovation and opportunity identification translated into tangible initiatives and successful execution and adoption of innovative approaches is a must.
  • Working knowledge of all functional areas of drug development and commercialization, including, CMC, clinical development, manufacturing etc.
  • The ideal candidate should have some knowledge and experience with modeling, simulations and data analytics.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in managing portfolio of projects and in leading change through others to achieve operational excellence.
  • Ability to provide innovative ideas to optimize drug development and generate new ideas or alternatives that create value, including seeking new information and external insights.
  • Capability to build alignment with business partners including R&D, Manufacturing, Quality and Commercial.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership capability with ability to make and act on decisions while balancing speed, quality, and risk.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence areas not under direct control to achieve objectives and goals.
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment and build strong relationships by being transparent, reliable, and delivering on commitments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, are mandatory to perform in this role.
  • Several years of experience managing, mentoring, and leading people with commitment to talent development across all levels of the department is also essential.
