Our microbial product development team is looking for a microbial physiologist to assist in the development and improvement of commercial probiotic products with extended shelf-life. The position calls for an individual with experience in the analysis of cellular structures and functions associated with maintenance or loss of viability of bacteria, yeast and fungi.. A strong background in microbiology, microbial cell physiology microscopy and associated diagnostic techniques is required. Experience with cellular preservation techniques such drying, cryopreservation and encapsulation is desirable. The applicant will be part of a team tasked with stabilizing and formulating viable commercial microbial products within a collaborative, fast-paced, team-oriented environment. This position will be responsible for supporting the development and improvement of innovative new probiotics and other microbial products. • PhD or equivalent experience in or microbiology, microbial cell physiology, microbial culturing, fermentation or related field

• Experience required with microstructural and metabolic diagnostic techniques such as microscopy, staining, fluorescent labelling, and flow cytometry

• Practical experience desirable with biological formulation and preservation technologies such as freeze-drying, spray drying, and microencapsulation, with specific application to stabilizing, preserving, or extending the viability of bacteria, fungi or yeast cells

• A minimum of 3 years industrial or academic employment involving the characterization the structural features and metabolic state of bacteria, fungi or yeast

• Team player, able to work with multi-disciplinary team and external collaborators

• Excellent communication skills

• Motivated self-starter with good organizational skills

• Excellent leadership skills

• Some travel required
