Your tasks and responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, Group Head Project Controls, are to:



  • Provide leadership and management of the Project Controlling function for E&T Americas with regard to Consumer Health, Pharma and Animal Health; may at times act as a steering committee member for E&T projects;
  • Maintain a close working relationship with division management;

  • Continually evaluate opportunities for productivity improvements in the Project Controlling function;
  • Act in compliance with Corporate Project Controlling Policies;
  • Plan, monitor, and manage budget activities;
  • Recommend employee hiring, termination, promotions, training, and development;
  • Recruit, employ, develop and deploy project controls personnel to provide project control services and deliverables for customers and project teams;
  • Directly supervise project control personnel and empower project control personnel as leaders on project teams;
  • Ensure all project controls group personnel are adequately trained for project work by supplying both in house and external training in project controls procedures, best practices, techniques, tools and systems;
  • Participate in the scope of work development of projects with the Project Manager, project team, customer, discipline and engineering management;
  • Develop, generate and revise key project control documents including project organization plans (WBS/OBS), schedules, cost estimates, cost status reports, cost forecast, contract plans and other reports for capital projects and other assignments as required;
  • Provide E&T with project controls best practices solutions - including initiating, implementing and utilizing innovation, metrics, quality improvements, corrective actions and other techniques necessary to ensure best practices are followed;
  • Establish consistent project controls reporting methods, procedures and requirements in compliance with existing relevant Bayer procedures and policies and ensure via internal audits that E&T operations are compliant with appropriate benchmarking, Bayer standards, and industry accepted project control practices;
  • Provide innovative input and feedback to project teams and other customers to improve planning, scheduling, cost and expediting effectiveness of operations and services;
  • Maintain close working relationship with Controlling and Services groups located in Pittsburgh and production sites in planning, scheduling and cost engineering; emphases on standardization, resource management, training procedures, standards, methods, reporting and continual improvement;
  • Maintain audit/consulting relationship with external companies and other performing work for Bayer;
  • Maintain project control files, databases and historical records to ensure accessibility, "up-to-date" and viable information within/outside group correctness and completeness continually stresses;
  • Provide technical expertise via consultation, advice, or project controls assigned personnel to plant operations, engineering and maintenance departments where required.

Required Qualifications:





  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent;
  • At least 10 years of experience and in-depth knowledge in Project Controlling;
  • At least five years of experience and in-depth knowledge in the following:
    • Good Manufacturing Practices preferred;
    • Leadership and management of the Corporate Project Execution System;
    • Execution of Capital Projects;
    • Working closely with the business and manufacturing groups;
    • Cost and scheduling software;
  • Past demonstration of the following abilities:
    • Leadership and management of engineers, scientists, and contractors;
    • High level of proficiency in negotiation and ability to work well with others;
    • High level of communication and interpersonal skill proficiency is necessary;
    • Maximize the value of the assets of Bayer;
    • Evaluate and maintain a close working relationship with A&E, engineering, construction, qualification, and validation contractors and negotiate terms and conditions as needed;
    • Continually evaluate opportunities for productivity improvements in Project Controlling;
    • Act in compliance with Corporate Project Controlling;
    • Plan, monitor and manage budget activities;
    • Recommend employee hiring, termination, promotions, training and development.
