ABOUT THE COMPANY:

Rigel Pharmaceuticals, Inc., is a biotechnology company dedicated to discovering, developing and providing novel small molecule drugs that significantly improve the lives of patients with immune and hematologic disorders, cancer and rare diseases. Rigel's pioneering research focuses on signaling pathways that are critical to disease mechanisms. The company's first FDA approved product is TAVALISSE™ (fostamatinib disodium hexahydrate), an oral spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) inhibitor, for the treatment of adult patients with chronic immune thrombocytopenia who have had an insufficient response to a previous treatment. Rigel's current clinical programs include Phase 2 studies of fostamatinib in autoimmune hemolytic anemia and IgA nephropathy. In addition, Rigel has product candidates in development with partners BerGenBio AS, Daiichi Sankyo, and Aclaris Therapeutics.

SUMMARY:

As a key member of our DMPK group the candidate will be primarily responsible for conducting PK experiments in rodents.  Additionally, the selected individual will work with other members of the vivarium team to evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of novel small molecule to be used in the treatment of autoimmune disorders

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities will include all in-life phases of animal studies. The primary responsibility for this position is to conduct PK experiments in laboratory animals including dosing, sample collection and laboratory operations to process biological specimens. Proficiency in various methods of rodent experimentation including drug administration by standard routes (PO, IV, IP, SC) blood collection proficiency via cannula, cardiac puncture, tail vein and retro-orbital bleeds are key requirements for this position.  As a member of the DMPK team, the candidate will be asked to participate in the design and execution of PK experiments and may be asked to work with CROs in the design and execution of PK studies. Additionally, the selected individual may be asked to participate in additional pharmacology studies to demonstrate efficacy and explore the toxicity of novel small molecules.  Familiarity with toxic responses in rodents, including the ability to conduct necropsies, would be highly desirable., Additional responsibilities will include detailed study documentation, study planning, preparation data collection forms, and data analysis. Other duties may be required as a member of the DMPK department, including assistance with generating reports or other summary documents.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS DESIRED:

  • Candidates must possess a BS degree in pharmacology, physiology, immunology, biology or a related discipline with a minimum of 5 or more years of research experience
  • Experience in rodent models of disease, including the ability to evaluate and score clinical outcomes, familiarity with toxic responses, and the ability to conduct necropsies, are highly desirable skills
  • As part of a DMPK team, the selected individual should have a basic understanding of pharmacokinetic and metabolism concepts and be able to contribute to both the design and the execution of rodent studies in support of team goals and objectives
  • The selected individual should be able to work independently or as part of a team, operate laboratory equipment and be able to maintain accurate records
  • Experience with animal models of inflammation is highly desirable.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and computer skills required
  • General knowledge of federal and state regulations governing animal care is essential.
  • Must be capable of prioritizing multiple tasks and maintaining positive professional relationships.
  • Strong time and resource management skills and ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment under minimal supervision are required
