As customer facing field-based medical experts, the Depomed Associate Director, Field Medical Affairs is a senior level medical science liaison, who functions as an extension of the Medical Affairs organization at Depomed. As such, the Associate Director, FMA is responsible for developing and enhancing collaborative professional scientific and research relationships with external experts involved in various phases of product development, as well as key medical organizations including treatment centers of excellence and established societies and associations. Associate Director, FMA provides medical information through scientific exchange in a fair-balanced manner and provides clinical/scientific support that is aligned with Depomed's medical and clinical development strategies. This role is also a critical medical partner with decision makers in the areas of product reimbursement, health economics and disease and patient treatment pathways within healthcare reimbursement and delivery organizations. As an externally facing role, this person will serve as a key communicator of insights and strategic thinking to inform Depomed's strategic and business priorities. This position requires professionals with established personal and scientific creditability to interact with external experts and organizations of strategic importance to Depomed. Geography: Northeast (Boston, NY) or Chicago, Illinois

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Maintain a deep medical and scientific knowledge of pharmacologic options utilized to manage CNS and other disease areas of priority for Depomed
  • Identify External experts (EEs) and support an EE panel of healthcare providers and other decision makers and maintain productive scientific relationships with these EEs
  • Act as a partner with investigators interested in developing and performing investigator initiated, collaborative, and/or corporate sponsored research. Build research collaborations of strategic importance to the company, to support Depomed's research priorities.
  • Serve as a critical partner in communication of science and in facilitating potential research initiatives with decision makers in reimbursement, managed care and other healthcare delivery organizations.
  • Act as an informed voice of the healthcare community and the patient by gathering and communicating strategically relevant insights and perspectives back into the organization to inform Depomed's strategic and business initiatives.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
  • Collaborate with investigators to enhance patient enrollment in Depomed-sponsored clinical trials by identifying appropriate clinical trial sites.
  • Act as the scientific subject matter and research expert for decision makers in managed care, integrated delivery networks and other accountable care organizations.
  • Provide scientific support for government affairs and other externally facing functions at Depomed.
  • Provide clinical presentations and information in response to unsolicited HCP questions
  • Serve as Depomed's scientific function at medical congresses, including Medical Information support, educational and advisory board execution and congress highlights. • Provide scientific support for appropriate educational initiatives
  • Assure compliance with all relevant corporate and regulatory guidelines
  • Develop partnerships with national and regional professional associations
  • Serve as a bridge and connector across teams, by communicating regularly and compliantly to meet Depomed's business objectives.
  • Assure field medical time and resources are appropriately focused on EEs interactions
  • Manage T&E for designated area.
  • Ensure compliance to all regulatory/compliance guidelines


Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Advance degree in clinical specialty (M.D., Ph.D., PharmD.) preferred with at least 5-7 years of experience in the pharmaceuticals industry and at least 3 - 5 years of experience as an MSL.
  • Experience working clinically in therapeutic area of CNS is preferred; experience in Pulmonary Medicine or Nephrology will also be considered.
  • Clinical trials experience, particularly in the designated therapeutic area(s), is a plus.
  • Experience in working with managed care and other reimbursement decision makers, and ability to convincingly communication information tailored to address this stakeholders unique informational needs.
  • Excellent written, oral, communication, leadership and organizational skills
