Summary:

The Associate Manager, R&D Finance serves as a key partner in supporting the R&D organization and works with various senior levels of management and provides financial analysis, strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting support to drive business results. This position will be responsible for supporting certain business development deals within research as well as management of headcount, FTEs, operating expense, and capital equipment budgets for specific departments within the R&D organization. The individual will closely interact with R&D VPs, departments heads, and their teams as well as work routinely with other Finance, Accounting, and R&D colleagues.

Responsibilities:

Analyze R&D department budgets and develop quarterly reforecast numbers to maintain both the operational and financial forecast

Develop an understanding of key performance and business drivers and adjust forecast accordingly

Identify gaps and issues as they come up and propose process oriented solutions

Prepare and present financial analysis in support of ad hoc requests and projects

Analyze actuals and compare to budget and forecasts throughout the year

Provides financial guidance on key program/business decisions and purchase requisitions

Provides variance explanations between actuals and budget as well as between forecasts

Prepare and present presentations to senior management

Be a strong business partner to VPs/Department Heads in R&D

Requirements:

Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment

Must have strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills and be a team player.

Must be able to show initiative and maintain accountability to the team.

Strong attention to detail required.

Must possess the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.

Experience needed with Hyperion.

Strong understanding of the Biotech/Pharma industry

Extensive knowledge of financial modeling and advanced Excel skills needed to manipulate raw data and provide meaningful analysis (Vlookup, Pivot tables, IF statements, macros).

Ability to work effectively in a team

Ability to effectively manage conflict and change

Required to produce accurate and timely financial budgets, forecasts, actuals, and variance analysis under tight deadlines

Minimum years of experience: Requires BS/BA in related field with 6+ years of relevant experience or MBA with 4+ years of relevant experience.
