Your tasks and responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, Director, Grocery Channel Solutions, are to:



  • Lead development of Category Management and/or Customer Marketing strategy and approach within assigned retailers or channels of trade;
  • Be accountable for Category Advisor, Customer Marketing and/or Analytical team at assigned retailer or channels of trade, across all Bayer Over-the-Counter (OTC) categories and formal advisor roles based on key battle brands/categories;
  • Be responsible for the capacity planning of team resources to enable achievement of Bayer business objectives at assigned customers;
  • Be responsible for resourcing, people development and succession planning of the Channel Solutions team;
  • Drive ongoing identification of customer and/or channel shopper insight issues and opportunities with team;
  • Coordinate with HQ Sales Support (i.e. sales strategy, category solutions, self-care solutions, visual merchandising);
  • Identify Bayer brand business and category opportunities based upon retailer and shopper insights;
  • Manage team in support to Bayer's internal brand focus areas including:
    • Development of category reviews, planogram strategies, and supporting Bayer "test and learn" concepts with customers;
    • Planning, development, customization, and execution of platform presentations (i.e. category, regimen, self-care) with Bayer customer;
    • Adapting, selling, and executing self-care/health and wellness holistic category solutions and regimen programs with customers;
  • Lead team to provide retailer's with category, brand, and market-leading shopper or category management insights based on strong analytics including:
    • Leading insight development utilizing customer point of sale (POS) data, syndicated data and industry information for new opportunities and in support of existing initiatives/actions;
    • Converting analytical facts into actionable insights and solutions;
    • Conducting ongoing retail controllable scorecarding analysis and evaluation/recommendations versus best practices;
    • Conducting ongoing category reviews and analyses;
    • Monitoring and tracking competitive activity, new item performance, and shopper engagement activity;
    • Utilizing customer data, information, and resources for ongoing analyses;
    • Providing ongoing ad hoc analytical support;
  • Lead category strategy dialog with assigned retailers and cultivates relationships with category management and/or shopper marketing senior management, influencing overall strategy.

Required Qualifications:






  • Bachelors degree with a minimum of twelve years of experience in sales and/or marketing roles working in consumer packaged goods (CPG)/ over-the-counter (OTC) industry OR M.B.A or Master's degree with a minimum of ten years of experience in sales and/or marketing roles working in CPG/OTC industry;
  • Demonstrates competency in category management with a minimum of five years of functional experience including hands on analytical and data manipulation;
  • Must be able to integrate corporate objectives into account level business building solutions;
  • Demonstrates a strong customer focused orientation with clear understanding of customer and marketplace needs and implications;
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of data based shopper insights data (driven through syndicated and sales data, primary research) and emerging industry trends to expand organizational capabilities;
  • Ability to leverage problem solving skills to overcome barriers;
  • Skilled strategic thinker;
  • Capable of developing strategic plans that balance company and customer objectives while driving category results;
  • Able to drive results through others;
  • Ensures effective resource (people, time and money) allocations;
  • Strong leader with a proven track record of delivering in-market results;
  • Works effectively and collaboratively in a team environment, builds and motivates team and develops others (direct and indirect reports);
  • Skilled at effectively communicating cross functionally within the organization and able to influence others to achieve common goals;
  • Must have a Valid Driver's license;
  • Ability to travel as necessary or required.


Preferred Qualifications:






  • Direct or Indirect retailer experience;
  • Headquarter based sales experience.
