Your tasks and responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, Bayer Crop Science Greenhouse Foreman, are to:

  • Management of the work activities related to the operational area;
  • Manage, support and direct the greenhouse team and breeding related activities in line with the farm plan, guidelines and procedures and corporate values and vision within Nunhems in order to ensure an efficient and effective operating greenhouse team;
  • Instruct, train, inform and monitor greenhouse technicians, greenhouse workers, students, seasonal aides and colleagues regarding the execution of breeding/research experiments and activities within the operational area of expertise;
  • Ensure technology transfer to the farm team and breeding teams, and monitor the operational activities within the team, and ensure the supplies and equipment to meet agreed standards, time planning and budgets. Contribute to an efficient and effective operating greenhouse team;
  • Manage maintenance and monitoring of the technical equipment and installation. Organize alarm service, monitoring and control during and outside working hours;
  • Planning, monitoring and execution of budgets for the related area;
  • Prepare the purchase of necessary supplies or maintenance, look for quotations, check the delivery of the supplies or quality of the maintenance and check invoices;
  • Ensure the working hours of the employees are assigned to the right program or project and analyze the realized working hours and take measures to stay within the agreed budget;
  • Prepare, and after approval of the farm manager, implement specified operational crop budgets and operational plans for the team of the related area by analyzing discrepancies in realized and budgeted cost within the guidelines of the farm department. Checking the realization of the budget and by taking corrective measures in order to ensure a correct and optimal realization of the crop breeding budgets and operational plan;
  • Prepare, and after approval of farm manager, implement investments for the specific area. Checking the optimal realization of the investments and ensure a correct and optimal functionality for the different users;
  • Lead and follow safety rules and procedures. Communicate all teams about any safety related updates;
  • Plan, execute and communicate spraying schedules including each breeding team.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or Masters of Science;
  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of five years' experience working in farm management;
  • Nine years' experience working in farm management with no degree;
  • Experience in managing full time and seasonal personnel;
  • Ability to define priorities and make decisions under time pressure;
  • Technical credibility, continual improvement, customer focus.
