Position Summary

The Regeneron Genetics Center (RGC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company, whose goals are to apply large scale human genetics to identify new drug targets and to guide the development of therapeutics programs and precision medicine. Building upon Regeneron's strengths in mouse genetics and genetics-driven drug discovery and development, the RGC specializes in ultra-high-throughput exome sequencing, large scale informatics and data analysis encompassing genomics and electronic health records, and translating genetic discoveries into new biology and drug discovery opportunities. The RGC leverages multiple approaches including large population based studies, Mendelian genetics and family based studies, founder population genetics, and large-scale disease focused projects and has developed a network of over 50 collaborations with research organizations around the world. Including some of the largest sequencing studies in the world, such as the DiscovEHR study in collaboration with Geisinger Health System, and an initiative to sequence 500,000 participants with the UK Biobank, the RGC has built one of the largest human genetics databases, including sequence data from over several hundred thousand participants and rapidly growing. Our interests encompass a breadth of different areas across all therapeutic areas and the RGC is highly integrated into all facets of research and development at Regeneron. Program goals include target discovery, indication discovery, and patient-disease stratification. Objectives include advancing basic science around the world through public sharing of discoveries, providing clinically-valuable insights to physicians and providers of collaborating health-care systems, improving patient outcomes, and identifying novel targets for drug development.

The Regeneron Genetics Center (RGC) is seeking a talented and motivated Automation Associate to join the Sequencing and Lab Operations team. The Automation Associate will be responsible for the design, programming, and day-to-day maintenance of a variety of automated systems custom designed by the RGC for ultra-high-throughput next-generation DNA sequencing at our Tarrytown location.

A successful candidate will be well-versed in the latest automation technologies, have hands on experience programming robots, and be willing to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment. Experience programming liquid handlers from Hamilton Robotics (Star and Vantage, knowledge of Venus is required and Instinct is preferred) and equipment from HighRes Biosolutions (Cellario software) are required. Integration of various devices necessary for the research lab – centrifuges, plate sealers, etc. – as well as ability to code in C#, VB, and/or Python is preferred.

1. Develop, implement, and troubleshoot workflows on both existing and newly planned automated systems from, but not limited to, Hamilton Robotics, Dynamic Devices, and HighRes Biosolutions.
2. Program and integrate third party devices (e.g. centrifuges, barcode scanners, etc.) from a variety of different suppliers (e.g. Agilent, Inheco, Liconic, etc.).
3. Contribute innovative solutions to increase efficiency and decrease costs while continuing to improve sample throughput and data quality.
4. Stay up-to-date on new technologies and evaluate how adopting new equipment will impact workflows.
5. Train new users to operate equipment and then provide on-going technical support when needed.
6. Clearly communicate timelines, effectively manage expectations, and plan R&D to minimize production downtime; effective communication with the RGC lab manager, head of the RGC lab, and various other automation teams at Regeneron will be necessary for success.
7. Will occasionally be required to operate the systems and prepare samples.

1. B.S or M.S. in Science/Engineering or related field with 2+ years of automation experience.
2. Direct experience programming Hamilton Stars (or closely related) using Venus software is required; experience with Hamilton's Vantage and programming within Instinct is preferred but not required.
3. Experience with HighRes Biosolution's Cellario software is preferred.
4. Will be required to integrate various third-party devices into workflows controlled by Hamilton and/or HighRes resources; experience with many different types of these devices is preferred.
5. Must have strong communication and organizational skills and easily adapt to a rapidly changing fast-paced environment.
6. Prior experience in a large-scale next-generation sequencing lab is ideal but not required.
