Research Associate, Cell Biology

Bell Biosystems, Inc. is a life science startup company in Berkeley, California that is combining synthetic biology, cell biology, molecular and medical imaging to create products for regenerative medicine and other cell-based technologies.  Our first-in-class product, the Magnelle® is derived from non-pathogenic bacteria that produce magnetic nanoparticles from intracellular iron.  This provides researchers the unprecedented ability to track the viability and location of transplanted cells in vivo using non-invasive MRI.

We are seeking a Research Associate to support our cell biology scientists.

Responsibilities Overview:

•          Maintains adherent and non-adherent mammalian cells in culture, this includes but will not be limited to human cells.

 

             •          Performs immunocytochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry.

•          Conducts molecular biology experiments including PCR, cloning and working with viral vectors.

 

•          Assists with general laboratory maintenance, including purchasing supplies and adhering to laboratory safety standards.

 

Minimum Qualifications

             •          Demonstrated expertise with mammalian cell culture in a BSL2 setting.

•          Demonstrated expertise with basic cell-based analysis techniques.

 

•          Experience with basic molecular biology techniques.

 

  • Experience in performing general laboratory duties such as preparing media reagents, and basic maintenance of equipment.
  • This person must be detail orientated, responsive to deadlines, has the ability to multitask and can communicate effectively in a team environment.

Ideal Candidate Characteristics

•          M.S. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry.

 

  • Be comfortable in working with animal models of disease.

             •          Strong communication, written skills and organizational skills.

             •          Presentation skills; must be comfortable interacting with senior management

•          Excellent project management and time management skills. Must be able to competently see tasks through to completion based on initial guidance
