This position reports into the Pharmacovigilance (PV) Portfolio Management Team within the Pharmacovigilance and Patient Safety (PPS) organization's Global PV Strategy Management Office. The PPS organization works collaboratively and strategically with colleagues across the product lifecycle to identify, evaluate, understand and communicate the safety profile of our drugs to protect patients worldwide.

The Global PV Portfolio Management team plays a critical role in conceptualizing, designing and driving high-priority cross-product initiatives (strategy/transformation, compliance and business process initiatives) that enhance performance across PPS and advance the pipeline. The team is a high-profile high-impact team that works across PPS and AbbVie on a range of critical initiatives. Examples of initiatives include global transformation initiatives, critical process initiatives to strengthen compliance, merger integration and operational efficiency initiatives.

This role reports to the Senior Director, Office of the PST (Product Safety Team) and PPS Portfolio Management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of large complex cross-product initiatives across PPS functions and in collaboration with other functions across AbbVie. Lead initiatives across entire project lifecycle (i.e. from planning to close-out) including the development of key deliverables such as strategic roadmaps, process flows, gap assessments, etc. Ensure that initiatives are actively managed and stakeholders are highly engaged and informed. Proactively highlight delays/risks, provide mitigation plans and resolve barriers to successful initiative implementation. Manage stakeholder relationships and drive effective decision making.
  • Provide strategic consultation directly to PPS senior leadership to translate functional goals/priorities into critical strategic initiatives. Develop compelling value propositions and business cases for aligning senior leadership on proposed initiatives.
  • Manage across projects in the portfolio to ensure alignment and consistency with business strategy, PPS vision and drive efficient utilization of business resources on projects.
  • Directly interface with key stakeholders across AbbVie to build alignment around project objectives and ensure end-to-end project approach.
  • Identify strategic connections between PV portfolio and other projects across AbbVie. Collaborate across boundaries to align project scope, objectives and deliverables. Build cross-functional partnerships to advance project deliverables and ensure successful delivery of projects.
  • Represent department leadership in cross-functional AbbVie project management-related initiatives to drive integration of PPS needs in business decisions.
  • Facilitate strategic workshops to align senior leadership (across PPS; across AbbVie functions) on vision and strategic direction for portfolio projects. Facilitate decision-making for complex high stakes business decisions.
  • Provide consultation to functional leaders to influence business decisions that impact successful implementation and long-term sustainability of project recommendations.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expertise on PPS' portfolio management processes during inspections and audits
  • Provide proactive mentorship to less experienced project managers and build project management competency in key positions across PPS organization.
  • Work with department leadership to strengthen consistency in project management excellence and build a culture of results measurement across the Global PV Portfolio Management team. Support leadership efforts to communicate progress of key initiatives to PPS senior leadership.
  • Represent department leadership for PV portfolio-related governance committees.
Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business related field
Preferred Education:

  • MBA or graduate degree in management is strongly preferred
Required Experience:

  • 10+ years hands-on experience in a project leadership role, driving strategic, transformational and process initiatives in a global company
  • Experience leading large cross-functional strategic and operational initiatives spanning multiple geographies
  • Knowledge of the healthcare industry is highly desirable. Experience within Pharmacovigilance is not required.
  • Experience working on cross-product initiatives is desirable
  • PMP certification is desirable
  • Experience in working directly with and influencing senior executives on high stakes global projects.
  • Hands-on experience developing and applying project management tools and templates for large-scale project
  • Experience in transforming concepts into well-defined initiatives and driving project teams to produce measurable results
  • Prior experience in a consulting role is desirable - either playing the role of strategic consultant to senior-level leaders within a company OR work experience in a consulting firm
  • High degree of emotional intelligence with demonstrated skills such as intellectual curiosity, analytical reasoning, problem solving, team player, being resourceful and ability to absorb information and assess situations quickly
  • Proven ability to quickly align multiple points of views of cross-functional senior stakeholders
  • Strong influencing skills with proven ability to get things done without formal authority; ability to build and maintain support and buy-in at all levels within the business
  • Experience with running a program management office is desirable
