In partnership with Project Directors (PD) and Alliance Management, manages several external partnerships / alliances. The Project Manager will work with teams at our Worcester, Cambridge and North Chicago sites to create project and resourcing plans to identify project objectives and strategies with corresponding timelines, milestones, and risks.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Build cross-functional relationships and teams across sites and functions as well as with external partners
  • Build partnerships with legal, contracting, Discovery operations, and other teams as necessary to develop processes to match contractual terms with existing internal processes and compliance
  • Collect and compile project information through various reporting systems and ensure information is correct; Communicate appropriately with PD/external partners to drive our science and meet contractual obligations on time
  • Develop and evaluate project plans on a routine basis to identify resource / schedule conflicts. Bring to the attention of PD and management team, along with providing recommendations for decision making
  • Work with internal and external collaborators to develop agenda and lead governance meetings per contractual obligations
  • Review critical path; identify potential bottlenecks and opportunities
  • Identify issues impacting cross-functional team alignment and elevate for resolution to PD
  • Assist in risk assessment and risk mitigation strategies
  • Participate with Discovery process improvement initiatives
  • Responsible for communicating project level information to the PD/PM/external partners
  • Responsible for planning, coordination of scientific materials per contract terms and oversight of external engagements which might include:
    • Symposiums, advisory boards, or scientific retreats

Accountability / Scope:

The position will be located between our Worcester and Cambridge site, with interactions with science and management teams at these sites as well as Ludwigshafen, Germany and Headquarters in North Chicago, IL.

Position will be hired base on level of experience.


  • BS, MS or PhD in a Science related field with 2-5+ years of direct project management experience
  • Experience leading and working on 4-5 projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to influence others without having direct reporting authority
  • Experience utilizing Smart Sheet, Excel, MS Project, Visio and SharePoint
  • Knowledge of generally project/ alliance management practices, including budgets, governance reviews, tracking timelines and meeting management skills


  • PMP certification
  • Demonstrated advanced problem solving skills in a team environment, have excellent negotiation or influencing skills and an ability to establish and influence team timelines and expectations
  • Experience facilitating meetings and driving decision making on cross-functional teams
  • Familiar with one or more areas of Drug Development (e.g., CMC, Preclinical, Clinical, Regulatory Affairs)
