Accountable to provide maximum value to the corporation by leading the purchasing and strategic sourcing for Goods and Services. Based upon needs of the business, identify, source, negotiate, transition, train and manage suppliers. Coordinate like purchases across all functions and sites ensuring bundling of spend. Major Responsibilities:
  • Develop, direct, and administer the Purchasing function for commercial and indirect spend for the Americas through the development and monitoring of AbbVie policies and strategies. Drive procurement operational efficiencies. Develop and implement company-wide purchasing programs to expand purchases from diverse suppliers. Develop senior level relationships with suppliers. Develop and execute procurement strategies for all assigned spend categories. Ensure global and participation and adoption.
  • Based upon needs of the business, identify, source, negotiate, transition, train and manage suppliers.
  • Negotiate agreements with suppliers that incorporate (i) reasonable legal terms and conditions including all required language from regulatory, compliance, legal and IT; (ii) service levels; (iii) pricing transparency; and (iv) cost savings. This position has a significant impact on the corporation's profit levels and is held accountable for significant P&L savings impact (in excess of $80mm annually). This is a key position that delivers significant SG&A and GMI savings to the company.
  • Stay abreast of constantly changing market conditions, industry trends, government regulations, quality standards, IT requirements and other internal requirements.
  • Obtain and maintain an in depth knowledge of brand positioning, market strategy (provider, patient, payor & Pharmacist), investment strategy, brand life cycle, regulatory rulings, compliance changes and industry trends.)
  • Position the company for an optimum supply chain by developing partnerships with strategic suppliers and reducing the number of suppliers used by AbbVie by developing networks for all key spend areas.
  • Provide Purchasing and Supplier Management expertise to senior management on major projects involving the selection, negotiation and acquisition goods or services on a worldwide basis.
  • Provide leadership to personnel that accurately interprets client needs, analyze markets and market timing, analyze spend, analyze economic indicators and indices, evaluate make-buy options, review bid documents, negotiate, review contracts, manage contract dossiers.
  • Manage supplier relationships to ensure high customer service is provided by the supplier. Conduct semi-annual reviews with strategic suppliers to: (i) review any outstanding audit observations; (ii) review compliance to contractual terms and conditions; (iii) obtain information on industry trends and best practices; and (iv) evaluate customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Solve critical supply chain issues resulting from supplier performance variability to ensure on-going business continuity including; financial bankruptcy, material shortages, changes to specifications / statements of work, contractual breaches, delivery delays and plant disruptions.
  • Lead critical PSM wide initiatives as they are identified aligned to AbbVie business objectives,
  • This position requires a proactive approach this is relationship orientated, customer focused, team based, highly analytical, creative, dynamic (must stay abreast of global economics) and without error in execution.
  • Bachelors Degree required: Business Administration or Technical (Medical and or Engineering)
  • Masters Degree in Business Administration, Finance or Technical Preferred
  • Certified Purchasing Manager Certificate Desirable
  • 10+ years Purchasing Supplier Management or related field required
  • 7+ years supervisory experience
  • Strong Project management
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership in a matrix environment
Key Stakeholders:
  • Interfaces with all levels of AbbVie Senior Management, including, CEO, CFO, President, Corporate Officers, Vice Presidents and Directors
  • Collaborate with Internal Clients, Quality, OEC, Legal and IT to develop processes, standards & requirements enabling Purchasing to identify appropriate suppliers than can deliver goods and services that will meet such standards and requirements while achieving the defined business strategies.
  • Interface with Senior Leaders of AbbVie Suppliers, including CEO's, VP of sales and Product Executives.
