This position acts as an internal consultant on developing, implementing and managing retirement programs. Must be able to think strategically and translate complex benefit plan provisions and regulations into understandable information for a varied audience. Ensures compliance with regulations, develops and maintains vendor accountability standards and supports the delivery of the benefits strategy. This individual participates in due diligence process and development of benefit recommendations for potential mergers and acquisitions. This position's primary area of responsibility is the U.S. retirement plans. They also manage and support strategy and management of projects concerned with retirement plans and other benefit plans outside the U.S.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serve as primary contact and subject matter expert for retirement benefit vendors for U.S., Puerto Rico and other country plans as assigned. Manage vendor relationships, develop contracts, establish annual performance goals and ensure high quality delivery of benefits services to AbbVie employees and retirees. Assess performance of benefits vendors through financial, utilization, outcomes, and quality data analyses. Keep management, Total Rewards team and Business HR informed of strategy; vendor performance and potential employee impacts. Develop communication strategies with vendors and review vendor generated employee communications.
  • Ensure that retirement processes, including internal and external partners, are monitored on a regular basis and address plan issues as they arise. Work with HR Operations and Total Rewards teams to provide documentation, resolve issues and ensure adherence to processes. Work collaboratively with HR Operations and vendors to ensure that retirement benefits and estimates are accurate and timely. Draft individual employee specific communications as needed for escalated issues.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on retirement programs on strategic projects related to future benefit needs, communications or management presentations globally. Develop recommendations for benefit plan changes as needed to ensure compliance with legislative changes. Coordinate with other AbbVie functions as needed to ensure appropriate response. Manage development of technical and compliance-related communications.
  • Manage cross-functional and global implementation teams for new or revised benefit programs according to project plans. Act as liaison with other AbbVie departments including legal, finance, risk management, HR and management to ensure success of benefit programs.
  • Manage integration of acquired entities including preparation of side-by-side benefit comparisons and evaluations, recommendations for day one and post-close treatment of benefits and employee orientation to AbbVie. Plan and manage implementation of AbbVie benefit plans or the continuation of benefits for acquired companies.
  • Responsible for updating outsourced benefits administration team, HR Operations and HR Communications on benefit plan changes to ensure staff has sufficient information to communicate changes to employees. Participate in development and review of communications by providing subject matter expertise.
  • Provide expert support for enrollment of employees in benefit plans including training for outsourced benefits administration team, developing employee materials and presentations, reviewing modeling tools, user acceptance testing, providing employee presentations to explain benefit options and providing plan detail and clarifications as needed to administration teams to ensure that employees are adequately informed.
  • Expand availability of retirement information and education to employees. Make presentations to employee and management on retirement plans as needed. Develop AbbVie's retirement, financial education and global financial wellness strategy and execute. Manage AbbVie's financial wellness initiatives working with the AbbVie Vitality team.
  • Represent AbbVie benefits on cross functional teams and work on other benefits related projects as assigned.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business preferred, 5 to 10 years of benefits administration, strategy or consulting experience. Experience in contracting, financial analysis, consulting, project management and client account management is a plus.
  • Must be able to work independently and work well on internal and external teams. Must be self-directed and able to handle large, concurrent projects with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of US/Puerto Rico pension regulations. Consulting experience in retirement and/or benefit plans is desired.
  • Able to problem solve at strategic, operational and tactical levels.
  • Must have excellent analytical and communication skills including written and verbal.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility and have experience working with various types of organizations including vendors, consultants, providers, clients, etc.
  • Position requires some travel.
  • Knowledge/experience with global retirement plans and benefits is a plus.
