The Dir. Scientific Communications oversees all aspects of Medical and Scientific communication deliverables for Depomed, including scientific platforms, publication planning and execution, medical information, and review of medical and promotional materials. They serve as a key cross-functional partner and collaborator both within Medical Affairs, and across the business, and represent the medical perspective on brand and other strategic teams. They lead development of congress strategy and planning, including medical education, publications and booth development. This role oversees and manages all vendors critical to the execution of these deliverables, while remaining fully accountable to the development and delivery of high quality, compliant and aligned communications. This position is for an independent, proactive, experienced scientist who will be supervising and interacting with many vendors including medical communication agencies and our outsourced call centers. This role will collaborate closely with external authors and external experts in therapeutic areas of strategic importance to Depomed, requiring effective communication and execution with the goal of driving successful publications and other communication deliverables for Depomed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Lead the cross functional development of scientific communications platforms for all assets of strategic importance to Depomed
  • Participate on brand and other strategic teams, to ensure alignment and support of scientific communications priorities
  • Lead the establishment and execution of a team to oversee and drive execution of compliant publication plans and related writing needs
  • Develop and execute Medical Education plans as identified within the Medical Affairs strategic plan for an asset
  • Serve as the Medical Affairs lead for congress planning, including booth content development, and abstracts, posters, and slide decks preparation as needed
  • Oversee the review and approval of externally facing materials for both medical and commercial stakeholders
  • Lead the development of medical information and related standard response documents to support Depomed call center and Medical Information vendors
  • Partner with Director, Field Medical Affairs to ensure robust alignment and integration of scientific communications strategies and resources for high impact field medical communications
  • Identify data gaps and data analysis needs and lead post-hoc data mining efforts, working closely with internal or external clinical, statistical and pharmacovigilence resources to address these needs.
  • Develop and maintain robust relationships with external experts, investigators, authors and journal editors to support Depomed's publication priorities
  • Manage internal publication and knowledge management database and resources.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
  • Develops strong internal relationships with the Medical, Commercial, Government Affairs and other externally facing organizations
  • Keeps abreast of current data, trends, medical knowledge, developments and advances in therapeutic areas of strategic importance to Depomed


Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • PhD, PharmD or MD degree
  • Minimum 5 years relevant medical writing experience, focused on publications and/or medical information for a biotech/pharmaceutical, medical communications agency or CRO
  • Demonstrated experience in development and alignment of integrated scientific platforms, and pull through and alignment with key Medical Affairs deliverables

  • Excellent writing, communication, project management, interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work on several projects at once while balancing multiple and overlapping timelines
  • Demonstrated abilities in both collaboration with others and independent work
  • Knowledge of Good Publication Practices, ICJME guidelines and all other aspects of executing compliant communications
  • Computer proficiency and an understanding of relevant publication and scientific communications technologies.
