Position Summary

Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Senior EHS Specialist, assists with the implementation of established programs for the Facilities Department. Performs work on EHS projects within Facilities Operations of limited scope within easily identified parameters. Exercises judgment within these defined parameters to determine appropriate action. Efforts will be made to cross train in all aspects of EHS as it relates to Facilities Operations at Regeneron. A limited background in EHS regulations and standard industry practices and principles is expected and initial and limited application of this knowledge to existing situations. Uses academic course work as the basis for developing and understanding industrial hygiene exposure assessments. Reviews germane regulations, best industry practice and consults with peers to research basic understanding of EHS field and issues. May work to develop specific programs of limited scope at Regeneron.

Responsibilities:

Assists in implementing various environmental health and safety programs and initiatives as they relate to Facilities Operations under the direction of EHS Management
• Assists in implementing environmental and safety management systems relating to Facilities Operations.
• Participates in RMET program including AED inspections and initial/refreshing training for first responders.
• Assists with implementation of emergency response programs.
• Assesses and updates machine guarding, lock out tag out and confined space entry procedures.
• Assists with EHS on the job training and class room training with an emphasis on Facilities Operations needs.
• Assists as necessary with inspection, collection, storage and disposal of hazardous waste relating to Facilities Operations. Maintains waste rooms in an orderly fashion.
• Works with Environmental Manager to inventory CFCs, coolants, etc. relating to Facilities Operations.
• Performs routine ergonomic assessments and makes recommendations.
• Maintains industrial hygiene (IH) equipment and performs IH monitoring of support personnel.
• Performs EHS audits of mechanical spaces, shop and support areas and offices.
• Responsible for having PPE readily available to Operations personnel.
• Manages annual chemical inventory for Operations. Provides training to responsible parties as necessary.
• Performs SPCC inspections. Provides follow up to action items as necessary.
• Assists with revising safety related policies and procedures are required.
• Assists in training of new hires regarding specific techniques in handling chemical, biological and radioactive hazards.
• Maintains and organizes EHS Stock Rooms.
• Performs respiratory protection inspections.
• Assists Associate Manager EHS Operations with compliance for renovation and construction activities.
• Participates in professional development training and activities.
• Available 24/7 for emergencies that may arise at Regeneron.

Requirements:

Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Computer literate. Ability to learn specialized software applications. Ability to conduct EHS training sessions. Ability to use specialized safety and industrial hygiene equipment. EMT certification is a plus.
