Your tasks and responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, Associate Director Contract Generation, are to:

  • Manage the contracting process from proposal initiation through contract approval, including generating initial drafts of commercial contracts, redlining process, and delivering a compliant contract to external customers across Pharmaceutical Divisions;
  • Establish and manage contract authoring and approvals across the Health Plan / Pharmacy Benefits Manager (PBM) Channel;
  • Evaluate contract proposals, driving negotiation meetings to build consensus, ensuring price concessions, admin fees, trade service fees can be processed / paid within contracted timelines and according to Bayer policies and procedures;
  • Participate in the development of long range commercial contracting/pricing strategies ensuring that the strategy is integrated with the business and financial strategies for each Bayer product while monitoring Bayer's pricing strategies for legal and government compliance obtaining appropriate proposal approval across Pharmaceutical Divisions;
  • Apply formal, best practice methodologies to develop and implement strategies to support the sales contract process;
  • Practice extensive cross-functional collaboration with Brand teams, Legal, Contract Strategy, Account Management, and Pharmacovigilance;
  • Work closely with Account Management to understand payer/channel customer needs, requirements, expectations, and challenge in alignment with contract strategies and business objectives;
  • Assist Account Executive or Field Sales in the negotiation of financial and business terms and conditions;
  • Ad-Hoc project as assigned within channel and across the contract generation team;
  • Mentor and develop other Contract Specialist in a designated Channel.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in general business, managed health care, or Finance;
  • Ten or more years of work experience in contracting, legal, strategic planning, health economics, or finance within the pharma/biotech/medical device fields;
  • Five years minimum contract drafting and negotiation experience in pharma/biotech/medical device fields;
  • Knowledge of distribution channels and payer and provider reimbursement environments;
  • Knowledge of pricing and reimbursement;
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, detail oriented, and self-directed;
  • Excellent planning and strategy development capabilities while executing against tight timelines;
  • High emotional intelligence in managing multiple business initiatives, cross-functional relationships in matrixed team environment;
  • Proven track record for consistently meeting or exceeding qualitative and quantitative targets and goal;
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, strategic capabilities, and ability to work effectively in complex, rapidly changing environments;
  • Excellent problem resolution skills;
  • Responsible for achieving all assigned goals while maintaining compliance with all Bayer policies and standards;
  • Strong organizational and project management skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders at one time.
