Sr. Manager, Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) Communications and Engagement

The Sr. Manager of gRED Communications and Engagement is responsible for providing internal and external communications support to gRED leadership and managing employee engagement activities within the gRED organization. This position assists in the preparation of all-employee communications, executive presentations, and strategy for gRED events, including all-employee Town Halls and Leadership meetings. Beyond strategic communications, this position will manage a variety of evolving employee engagement programs that align with gRED’s commitment to being a great place to work. This position is within the gRED Business Operations and Communications group, in the gRED Portfolio Management and Operations organization.


  • Assist with the development and implementation of a strategic, annual communications plan for gRED
  • Support the planning and execution of effective, thoughtful and engaging all-employee internal communications
  • Assist with development of senior leader executive presentations, both internal and external
  • Collaborate with Genentech and Roche communication colleagues to provide regular input to Roche and Genentech communications
  • Partner with Communications and HR leadership to plan content development and execution of gRED Town Halls and Director level meetings
  • Manage employee engagement programs that align with gRED’s commitment to being a great place to work (e.g. VP lunch program, Awards program)
  • Partner with gRED Business Operations IT team to manage content strategy for the gRED internal website

Who You Are


  • A Bachelor’s degree is required; Masters’ preferred; scientific background or experience working in a scientific organization strongly preferred
  • 8+ years of internal or employee communications experience
  • Ability to understand scientific concepts and translate messages to a broad audience
  • Experience and high-level skill creating and editing presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Strong communication skills with relevant experience engaging with and supporting senior leaders on internal communication efforts
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills and the ability to effectively communicate with business partners across the company
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Creativity, collaboration and team partnership experience
  • Ability to build trust and strong relationships across the organization
