Synthego is enabling genome engineering at scale with a blend of scientific instrumentation, industrial automation, and data science. Our team of scientists and engineers are putting multidisciplinary fields together to solve problems that no one field could tackle alone.

We are currently searching for a Scientist to help the Custom Cell Engineering program. This role will be responsible for the generation of custom cell lines using Synthego’s genome engineering reagents and technologies. This role is hands-on, lab-based, and will supervise a supporting team of cell culture RAs and cell banking technicians. This role will be responsible for solving challenging genome engineering problems, ensuring processes are executed correctly while working to develop new and improved protocols, instrumentation, and assays.

What You’ll Do

Work closely with multidisciplinary contributors to build a semi-automated cell engineering operation, focused on delivering custom engineered cell lines for research and customer needs.

  • Extensive hands-on cell line generation experience using CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing on a variety of cell types or animals.
  • Experience culturing different mammalian cell types including human iPSCs, ESCs and primary cells.
  • Strong molecular biology skills including gDNA, PCR and RNA isolation and molecular cloning skills
  • Innovative publications and excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills 
  • Develop and optimize protocols for CRISPR experiments and cell imaging methods
  • Supervise cell culture RA’s (as required)
  • Track new techniques and technologies in CRISPR genome editing space

About You

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in synthetic/molecular biology, biochemistry, or bioengineering
  • 4+ years of life sciences wet lab experience including operating scientific instrumentation
  • Significant experience in eukaryotic cell culture systems with demonstrated experience in working with clonal cell populations
  • Strong molecular biology skills including gDNA, PCR and RNA isolation and molecular cloning skills
  • Experience developing or optimizing scientific protocols
  • Ability to contribute to the design and analysis of experimental procedures by incorporating the views of others to conduct where appropriate in parallel more than one agreed area of work to agreed timelines
  • Looking for an energetic startup environment

  • Fluorescence microscopy and/or FACS
  • Experience in culturing difficult cell lines
  • Automation robotics and high-throughput experience
  • NGS library prep and data analysis
  • Ability to code in Python or a similar high-level language
