Function/Scope:

The Research Associate will be responsible, with minimal supervision, for the execution of in vivo scientific research experiments relating to cancer gene therapy research and characterizing host and viral factors involved in susceptibility and resistance to viral delivery, infection, and spread. Specific duties include conducting in vivo experiments using existing models and participating in establishing new animal model capability to support the development and analyses of replicating retroviruses for preclinical product development.

Duties and Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:

• Understand the goals of the Translational Research group and their relationship to strategic R&D and corporate goals and objectives. Develop personal goals and maintain strategies to meet such goals within set timeframes.
• With team members, plan and execute collaborative research experiments requiring initiative and judgment within defined procedures and practices; exercise judgment and show initiative in making technical decisions.
• Work on problems of defined scope with minimal supervision identify, analyze, and interpret experimental results.
• Prepare written reports of scientifically/technically complex experiments and participates in oral presentation at the R&D meetings on all phases of laboratory and/or field experimental work.
• Conduct experiments and prepare written reports conforming to defined documentation practices in support of regulatory filings and other company documents including well documented notebook.
• Comply with the company safety policies and minimize risk to self, others and the environment, consistent with the community and industry standards.
• Performs other duties as required.

Desired Knowledge and Abilities:

Desired Knowledge and Abilities:
• Established knowledge of discipline including knowledge of protocols, scientific method and its applications, and use of specialized equipment (examples include IVIS imaging and stereotactic devices).
• Demonstrated potential for technical proficiency and creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought.
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills and proficient computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, and data base programs.
• Demonstrated technical capability; enjoys working in a fast paced dynamic environment.
• Significant experience with in vivo techniques including tumor models, necropsy, small animal surgery, drug administration, tissue and fluid sampling.
• Familiarity with cell culture,, immunohistochemistry, immunological and/or molecular biology techniques is a plus.
• Flexible and cooperative spirit with strong commitment to team efforts.

 

 

Education and Experience:

• BS or MS in cancer biology or related scientific discipline

• Minimum 5-8 years of industrial experience.
• Technical documentation experience is a plus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Employee frequently works in a professional office environment and computer lab with lots of computer equipment, machinery, tools, and moderate amounts of noise and activity. Employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, vibration, and biohazardous materials. The work environment is fast-paced and demanding. This position has the utmost responsibility for compliance with the rules and regulations regarding a safe and healthy work environment relative to their actions and conduct. Off-shift, weekend and overtime duties may be required as assigned by the lead operator or manager.
