Your tasks and responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, Animal Health Technical Sales Specialist, Farm Animal Products, Integrated Species Swine and Poultry:

  • Maintains sales at or above the established sales goal for assigned accounts;
  • Develops and utilizes selling skills to identify and satisfy customer needs;
  • Develops and maintains accurate account profiles. This information is used to plan activities and promotional efforts. This profile functions as a marketing plan for the territory;
  • Routinely calls on key customers and influence leaders (as designated in customer base) to increase consumer demand for Bayer products;
  • Establishes and maintains accurate, up-to-date customer account records. Evaluates all customers based upon potential and probability. Develop and follow a strategic work or travel plan that ensures consistent regular contact with all 'key' accounts;
  • Organize and conducts product training for customers their clients and personnel;
  • Make recommendations of new product needs or applications to business unit management;
  • Reports to business unit management, on a timely basis, all important issues in the marketplace;
  • Evaluate competitive products and report to business unit management;
  • Identify and maintain personal and telephone contact with key distributor reps that service the account base;
  • In addition to the previously outlined activities/objectives, a Technical Sales Specialist may be expected to:
    • Serve in an advisory role in the planning of sales and marketing strategies;
    • Coach and train other sales representatives Participate in various product and sales task force groups as requested by business unit management and approved by the Category Manager - Brand/Product FIT team participant;
    • Assist the Category manager in such things as developing marketing plans with distributor headquarters, distributor goal setting and coordinating distributor headquarters activities within the Bayer sales organization. As well as develop business plans for integrator companies;
    • Represent Bayer at university "career days" or other similar regional functions;
    • Represent Bayer at national conventions or trade shows.

Required Qualifications:

  • A college degree and 6 plus years of previous sales and/or Master degree with 3 plus years of sales experience ;
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills;
  • Presentation skills are vital to this position as many group presentations are necessary;
  • Professional use of audio and video equipment;
  • Computer competency is a position requirement - including word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software expertise;
  • Proven leadership capabilities to assist in leading meetings, identifying gaps in business opportunities and influencing outcomes;
  • Established presence in the assigned market/region;
  • Displays an understanding of effective sales skills demonstrated by repeated sales performance of year-after-year meeting or exceeding sales performance; consistent year-over-year overall performance of meeting or exceeding sales targets;
  • Possesses an understanding of Swine and Poultry production in an integrated business environment;
  • Holds fundamental understanding of antimicrobials, biologicals and insecticides as they are used in the swine and poultry industries;
  • Capable of learning and communicating science based information to others.

Candidate will need to be located in the Upper Midwest of the United States, Iowa.
