Your tasks and responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, Deputy Director, Patient Assistance, are to:

  • Partner with Director, Patient Assistance in the development and implementation of a new Patient Assistance Foundation;
  • Co-develop overall Patient Assistance strategy for all Pharma brands;
  • Oversee and actively direct day to day operations of the Bayer US Patient Assistance Foundation which includes the following:
    • Direct suppliers in the areas of process improvement and efficiency to implement PAP initiatives;
    • Oversee external supplier's quality of services and ensure service levels are met;
    • Create and maintain Business Rules, standard operating procedures (SOP's) and freqently asked questions (FAQs) that are up to date and audit ready
    • Ensure Operations run efficiently and volume of medicine is tracked accurately and compliantly in line with applicable laws and regulations;
    • Manage daily customer issue resolution and respond to escalated customer inquiries, liaise with legal and medical teams for guidance on exceptions, when necessary;
    • Develop rationale and business case for recommendations that support new SOP's regarding enhancements to program Operations;
    • Conceptualize and operationalize opportunities to streamline patience assistance program (PAP) processes/SOP's;
    • Manage PAP data and metrics, create and disseminate reports to appropriate stakeholders including business unit (BU) heads and senior Pharma leadership to provide insights into the program;
    • Develop, track and secure appropriate budget for Foundation (approximately $5 Million).
  • Analyze and approve all PAP expenditures, relative to budgets and statement of work (SOW) to ensure compliance to program guidelines and document exceptions as required;
  • Act as the subject matter expert regarding compliance of Foundation operations, specifically related to maintaining a 501(c)3, tax exempt status across the entire Pharma portfolio;
  • Ensure supplier maintains required records for adverse events (AE) training, privacy breach processes and monitoring of external landscape of all alternate funding options for patients and adhere to global and local patient support program (PSP) SOPs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree;
  • Minimum of eight years' experience in the US pharmaceutical industry, with an emphasis on patient assistance, inventory, and reporting;
  • Strong understanding of Patient Assistance Program Operations
  • Understanding of compliance regulations and guidance governing patient assistance programs
  • Project management and communication skills with the ability to work in a matrix environment
  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work under tight timelines while balancing multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience in vendor selection, program development, implementation, and operations monitoring
  • Extensive knowledge of planning, developing, and implementing patient assistance programs
  • Knowledge of supply chain, specialty pharmacy operations, and inventory management
