Your tasks and responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, Software Engineer, are to:

  • Individually responsible for software development and support of IT applications & prototypes, used by Global Biological Research and Development teams, which drive innovative initiatives that support data analytics and data modeling;
  • Lead development by coordinating with IT consultants and application managers for biological applications and proof of concepts to deliver innovative solutions in an agile environment ensuring aligned with IT strategy;
  • Drive innovation for IT solutions in an area where general movement is to paperless/no touch environment with continuous integration and continuous deployment;
  • Be responsible for leading and delivering a test driven approach to software development;

Required Qualifications:

  • Expert in at least one technology/solution stack;
  • Experience with different software design patterns and produce simple and understandable code;
  • Experience with HTTP, RESTful APIs or JSON;
  • Proficient with Linux, databases (preferably Oracle), scripting and version control (preferably git);
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment and know the tools of the trade;
  • Successfully applied the concept of test-driven development and are used to setup automated testing;
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) in English;
  • Bachelor's degree with eight or more years OR Master's degree with six years OR Doctorate with one or more years OR eight or more years of applicable business experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient with R, SAS, or Matlab and can perform statistical analyses of various complexities;
  • Developed inside a cloud environment (e.g., AWS);
  • Experience with containers and orchestration (e.g. Docker and Kubernetes);
  • Knowledge of biological research or development processes.
