The Manager/Senior Manager, Global HCV & Specialty Care Public Affairs will be responsible for developing and executing global public affairs programs for the virology and neuroscience therapeutic areas as well as other specialty care brands. This position requires the ability to provide clear communications recommendations and counsel to influence the decision-making process. This person will serve as counselor to global brand teams, senior leadership, Area and Affiliate colleagues. As communications professionals, we shape our identity as a well-run company with scientific and industry leadership by counseling leaders, advocating for patient needs both inside and outside the company, and providing solutions for business challenges. Our areas of responsibility include media relations, science and disease state communications supporting our therapeutic areas, issues management, employee and executive communications, corporate marketing, community outreach, and promotion. Key Responsibilities Include: Product Communications:
  • Develop global therapeutic area communications strategy and engages global network of Area and Affiliate colleagues to develop and execute programs that align with global brand strategies.
  • Manage large-scale flagship brands and lead the development of multifaceted PR platforms that will positively impact the business or corporate reputation.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of corporate businesses and/or therapeutic areas, industry and competitive landscape to provide effective counsel to management.
  • Liaison with Investor Relations, Government Affairs, Market Access and other Corporate Responsibility Brand Communications (CRBC) colleagues to appropriately position leading brands across multiple audiences.
  • Manage resources/budgets on programming within company financial policies and external policies governing industry practices.
  • Oversee the development of brand plans (annual and/or project) to support business growth. Obtain buy-in and secure budget. Oversee implementation of tactical program elements and ensure deliverables are on time/on budget. Possess a thorough understanding/awareness of leading/emerging PR tactics and techniques to maximize program impact.
  • Manage adpromo process for numerous external communications materials (press releases, statements, response documents, fact sheets, toolkits, etc.). Interface with subject matter experts and material review teams (marketing, clinical, medical, regulatory, legal regulatory, corporate) and reconcile conflicting feedback on materials to ensure timely resolution. Keep various parties apprised of status, timelines and directional shifts to ensure smooth review process and to meet corporate deadlines.
Media Relations:
Drive and oversee media outreach and thought leadership efforts for relevant therapeutic areas. Set the media strategy to positively impact brand reputation. Serve as spokesperson with media on various brand topics. Uncover media trends and identify how AbbVie products fit into the story and proactively place stories that support reputation/deliver patient impact. Work closely with media and spokespersons to effectively shape and influence story development. Develop message platform. Oversee the identification and development (i.e. media training) of internal and third-party spokespeople.

Patient Relations:
Manage and direct partnerships with key patient groups and relevant third party organizations. Set strategic approach and define critical success factors. Oversee development of core patient relations plans and engage with Area and Affiliates to develop and execute on strategic activities, aligning with AbbVie's Guiding Principles for working with patient groups. Seamlessly work collaboratively with cross-functional colleagues including Government Affairs, marketing, medical affairs, etc . Issues Management:
Ability to assist in management of issues with business implications. Oversee execution of strategic communications plans that address numerous stakeholders (patients, media, investors, healthcare providers, third party organizations, activists, employees, policy makers and payers). Demonstrate agility and works well under pressure, including management of numerous stakeholders and short turn around times.

Agency Management:
Direct agency resources to support program objectives. Exercise judicious use of AbbVie resources to achieve maximum ROI. Manage issues with agency performance and provide feedback on a consistent basis. Manage agency resources and other vendors to ensure successful completion of projects and assignments within allocated budgets.
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 10+ years' experience with 5 years in a high-performing communications environment.

  • Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in communication, marketing, business or IT
  • Master's Degree or other postgraduate work preferred
  • Extensive experience working with Senior Management and Customers
