This position reports to the Director, Global Patient Relations and is directly accountable for global patient organization relationships, as well as building the advocacy capability of other colleagues within AbbVie. The successful candidate must act as a role model, inspiring cross-functional and multi-stakeholder collaboration to benefit patient outcomes. Specific functions to be performed include: identifying appropriate partners and partnership areas; driving innovative patient-focused strategies; flawless execution of initiatives; serving as an expert to support colleagues working at the country level to develop, measure and share partnership projects; identifying, organizing and facilitating best practice exchange as well as continuous improvement; communicating Patient Relations efforts internally and externally. There is direct accountability for the outcome of global actions and issues that may have an impact on the broader reputation of the Company. Key Responsibilities Includes:
  • Design innovative patient outcomes-oriented partnerships that involve multiple stakeholders with measureable results
  • Develop and implement advocacy strategies and action plans with specific timelines, budgets, stakeholder responsibilities and contingency plans
  • Collaborate with cross functional team members to achieve goals, communicate progress, changes and milestones regularly
  • Drive innovation at AbbVie by identifying new ways to learn from patients, communicating patient needs internally, engaging via digital mechanisms
  • Lead AbbVie's reputation among external stakeholders through trusted, innovative and creative partnerships that lead to remarkable impact on patients' lives
  • Actively contribute relevant Global Brand Teams and Global Commercial Teams within Global Therapeutic Area Public Affairs
  • Build strong relationships with functional leads in Marketing, Government Affairs, Market Access, Medical Affairs and other relevant functions
  • Collaborate with Areas and Affiliates to ensure alignment of strategies and activities, identify capability needs, design and execute support programs
  • Demonstrate superior organization skills, to empower the identification of best practices to share with affiliates facing similar challenges, and report analytics
  • Develop clear and impactful engagement with patient groups through a structured process in line with the highest standards of integrity
  • Manage budget, sponsorships and other forms of support to patient groups following OEC, Legal and other applicable regulations and policies
  • Comply with and advocate for the company's policies and procedures to meet statutory, quality and business requirements within the overall strategy and objectives of AbbVie
  • Serve as an expert in understanding patient group strengths, challenges and needs
  • Project, time and relationship management: Effectively manage time while preserving relationships, make good decisions, prioritize tasks, ensure efficient use of resources, course-correct derailed projects, establish clear expectations, provide timely feedback, take appropriate action, ensure objectives are met, measure outcomes and ensure continuous improvement
  • Challenge the organization status quo and go beyond conventional boundaries - bring innovative thinking
  • Bachelor's Degree in Public/Community/Government Affairs or Relations, Policy, Communications, Advocacy, or Healthcare
  • 6-15 years of experience managing internal and external stakeholders in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Significant experience working directly on patient group partnerships, including oncology-specific patient groups is required; experience working outside the United States at the affiliate or area level is desired
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills are required; corporate communications experience is desired
  • Must have substantial experience in complex project management, inspiring collaboration without authority, and regulations governing pharmaceutical industry and patient group interactions
  • High levels of empathy and emotional intelligence
