We offer a wide variety of competitive benefits, services and programs that provide our employees the resources to pursue their goals, both at work and in their personal lives.

The Protein Science group in Molecular Discovery Technologies provides protein production, analytical, and biophysical characterization of protein targets, protein reagents, as well as therapeutic and reagent antibodies. This group supports programs across all BMS therapeutic areas including Immuno-oncology (IO), Oncology, Immunoscience, and Fibrosis, and all modalities including biologics, small molecules and cycle peptides.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the generation, expression, purification and analytical characterization of protein reagents and therapeutic candidates primarily in the exploratory to early discovery space.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • This individual will be responsible for the Expression, Purification and Analytical Characterization of many protein modalities (mAbs, Adnectins, reagents)
  • Play a role in executing our strategy for producing and characterizing proteins to support various stages of the Discovery process.
  • Analyze and present data to supervisor & at internal meetings.
  • Participate in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses.
  • May represent departmental function on program teams or sub teams

  • B.S. with 6-8 years or M.S. with 4-6 years relevant experience in protein expression and purification techniques preferably including experience in a Biotech, Pharma or Biopharma setting with an experience based knowledge of protein biochemistry, protein chromatography and biophysical characterization,
  • Excellent basic laboratory skills required in Biology and/or Chemistry
  • Excellent communication skills, evidence of innovative thinking, and ability/potential to function at a high level in a matrixed environment
  • Hands on experience in the operation, control and troubleshooting of chromatography workstations (AKTA, BioRad, Agilent systems)
  • Protein characterization experience (BioPhysical, Spectroscopy, Protein Assays, SDS-PAGE) and experience with endotoxin reduction techniques
  • Experience with Bacterial and Mammalian expression systems is desirable
  • Experience with Automation systems (Beckman, TECAN, Caliper, Perkin Elmer) is highly desirable
  • Excellent technical, organizational, and analytical skills are required as well as demonstrated initiative and the ability to troubleshoot standard purification instrumentation and process steps.
