The Associate Director, Business Operations for Publications & Scientific Content (P&SC) will provide leadership for strategy development and execution for the Publications & Scientific Content organization, in collaboration with the corresponding business leader and in alignment with the broader Medical Capabilities organization. This role will be the strategic and operational partner to the assigned business leader(s). The incumbent will leverage capabilities and expertise within the broader RDSP organization to drive business objectives, resolve business issues, and optimize opportunities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic oversight on cross-TA department initiatives in partnership with the Head of P&SC and the Leadership team.
  • May serve as a formalized project sponsor for more complex projects. Identifies and drives continuous improvement opportunities across the P&SC organization.
  • Facilitate effective leadership team meetings and interactions, including P&SC Town Hall Meetings Support the development and tracking of functional objectives to ensure delivery Ongoing operating budget management to ensure delivery of functional objectives Create and manage headcount tracking and management processes across P&SC Creates & Leads PSC PPOEL Community of Practice, identifying operational efficiencies, implementing best practices (e.g. integrated key risk dashboard) and providing oversight/dotted line supervision of operations activities and individuals supporting P&SC teams. Includes strong matrix partnership with Medical Capabilities Market PPOEL.
  • Partners with PPOEL team to drive execution and build operational excellence within P&SC building project-management tools, processes, metrics and reporting of P&SC objectives and programs.
  • Partners with Global Procurement to establish and drive medical agency standards and ongoing governance, ensuring KPIs are tracked and monitored. Develops & implements appropriate resource projection model enabling efficient scalability to meet evolving business model. Continuously challenges publication and scientific content planning model assumptions & identifying resource allocation pressures/constraints and future risks offering alternatives strategies. Evaluates cross-TA level publication and scientific content risks, identifying/reporting on barriers impacting timelines and deliverables, offering appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Partners with other portfolio (above brand) level cross-functional Operations lead (e.g. GBS PP&E, WWM & WWB project management) to ensure publication and scientific content-related needs are proactively communicated & appropriately prioritized enabling execution of commitments.
  • Leads the development and integration of cross-portfolio publication and scientific content-related communications and metrics for Senior Management.
  • Leads in partnership with other members of the LT the development and implementation of a competency model framework for key P&SC roles ( Publication Leads, Content Leads, PPOELs)
  • Oversees annual Publication and Scientific Content Strategy Planning and Budget preparations ensuring clarity in timelines, deliverables and anticipating potential barriers to successful execution.

  • BA/BS degree required; advanced degree preferred. 5-7 years pharmaceutical experience, with global experience preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with Senior Management.
  • Experience with change leadership and demonstrated success in leading across a cross-functional matrix team with excellent organizational, written & oral communication, facilitation, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Track record of success in leading complex projects. Demonstrated strong project management skills.
  • Experience managing 3rd party vendors and influencing without authority
  • Subject matter competence in publication and scientific content field including execution across all phases of drug development and commercialization, good publication practices and guidance (GPP3, ICMJE), Sunshine Act, Pharma Code of Conduct, and other guidance related to post-marketing practices, scientific data communication, and transparency & conflict-of-interest environments
  • Experience in budget management.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 10-20% of time
