Our lab consists of BS, MS, and PhD level neuroscientists studying neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS, Parkinson's disease, and Huntington's disease. We use different cellular model systems, including human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), to answer biological questions and discover new drugs for these terrible diseases.
We are currently recruiting for a Research Associate with some basic computational skills and cell culture experience with the desire to learn and work on a multi-faceted project with diverse roles. The person in this position will work with stem cells or iPSCs from patients with neurodegenerative disease with the goal to elucidate molecular mechanisms and to help develop platforms for drug discovery.
This person will perform some cell culture work with iPSCs or stem cells from patients to generate neurons. These neurons will be subjected to our novel robotic microscopy (RM) system. At the core of our research is a novel RM system that we have invented to collect images and time-lapse movies of fluorescently-labeled neurons in high throughput format. We use our microscopy system to extract various types of biological information about how patient neurons grow and respond to candidate drugs, genes or small molecules. This person will help to run and develop some of our image analysis programs to capture phenotypes Some ICC, QRT-PCR and cell culture with other cells types may also be part of duties. We have collaborations with many industry and academic groups, publish our work in high profile scientific journals, and present our work at international conferences. The person in this position will play a very dynamic and multi- faceted role that will get to work in many different aspects of science. There will be lots of flexibility and freedom to learn many skills, techniques, statistical analyses and will be ample opportunity for growth.
BS in Biological Sciences

The ideal candidate will have ESC/ iPCS cell culture and differentiation experience. In addition, this person should have the desire to develop a strong background in image analysis tools and platforms. Some basic coding skills in R or python or some previous experience with ImageJ or Matlab is preferred.
