Position Overview:

This position is a key member of the Aziyo Biologics team and as such is involved in executing the Company’s short- term goals and objectives as it relates to production.    

The Production Technician is responsible for maintaining the proper storage, processing, and manufacturing of quality allografts.   The Production Technician utilizes equipment, in-process instrumentation and supplies to manufacture products in accordance with Aziyo’s established procedures. The Production Technician stewards each donor’s Gift by ensuring standardized operational practices are effectively executed at the local level and by seeking continual improvement opportunities to maximize the value of the Gift.

A Tissue Production Technician processes recovered donated bone and soft tissue materials into intermediate products for further downstream processing. The position will be responsible for the initial aseptic cutting, shaping, and manual debriding of incoming tissues for allograft, medical device, and biologic product lines. The position is physically demanding and requires the use of sharp instruments including a band saw. It requires an ability to perform repetitive movements for long periods of time and an ability to think spatially in order to produce specific shaped products from donated human bones. Understanding and proven proficiency of Aziyo’s procedures as well as documentation accuracy is required for this position.

Position reports to Supervisor, Production.   

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to standardized, hands on technical training in accordance with current and revised SOPs, established work instructions and product specifications in designated functional area.
  • Achieve the competency level necessary to safely and accurately process human tissue using power equipment, scientific equipment, and surgical instruments.
  • Adhere to and promote proper practices and techniques which are consistent with current operating procedures, safety practices and company policies.
  • Accurately record processing data and information in accordance with Good Documentation Practices.
  • Clean, organize, and maintain processing work areas as required by SOPs and work instructions.
  • Adhere to and promote proper practices and techniques which are consistent with current operating procedures, training requirements, safety practices and company policies
  • Adheres to all current Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).  Understands and practices universal precautions.
  • Performs tasks in a safe manner in compliance with Aziyo’s SOPs and safety policies and applicable regulations; maintains a neat work station and environment.
  • Sets up and maintains sterile environment within a clean room or laminar flow hood.
  • Participates in cleaning schedule to ensure the clean room and inner core areas are well maintained.
  • Responsible for processing ACD, and Cryopreserved skin allografts in accordance to established specification.
  • Responsible for assessing tissue and assigning them into each type of process.
  • Provides QA and Microbiology departments all information needed for the release of tissue for processing.
  • Performs cryopreservation of tissue using computer controlled step rate freezer.
  • Responsible for keeping the viability of the tissue by changing the media on time.
  • Responsible for monitoring the expiration of tissue from day one of its receipt.
  • Submits Tissue Evaluation Feedback Report of each tissue processed to recovery agencies.
  • Prepares solution used for processing; requires the use of weigh scale, pH meter, sterile filtration system, and magnetic stirrer.
  • Works with chemical solutions during process and testing.
  • Responsible for keeping adequate inventory of all supplies for solution preparation, also includes supplies for packaging allografts after freeze drying.
  • Set-up and take down freeze dryers as scheduled, working with team lead to identify and expedite priorities.
  • Performs residual moisture analysis upon completion of a lyophilization run.
  • Performs vacuum pump oil change of Lyophilizers.
  • Works with chemical solutions during process and testing.
  • Informs facilities with routine calibration and maintenance of equipment.  May perform limited troubleshooting activities as required.
  • Responsible for assisting with other tasks as assigned by team leader/supervisor during downtime.
  • Responsible for adhering to current procedures in executing tasks and reporting any and all exceptions to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Provides general support to Production, Product Improvement/R&D, and Quality Assurance team.
  • Provides training when necessary to new team members or other staff.
  • Contributes to the development of work instructions, batch records, equipment logs and other document history or traceability of tasks performed.
  • Maintains legible and accurate documentation on all hard copy forms related to production.
  • Work in a team oriented atmosphere and display courtesy and consideration to peers and staffs.
  • Perform special projects, single tasks or other related work as required or requested.
  • Contributes new ideas or techniques which may result in better service or improved quality of Aziyo products.
  • Responsible for following guidelines for safe working environment and report unsafe conditions to supervisor.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelors or Associate Degree preferred

Experience and Skills:

  • 2 years of relevant work experience. 
  • Possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing critical judgment and analytical skills.
  • Works well under pressure with strict deadlines.
  • Solid PC and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment, while maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all records and information, which pertains to donors, families, employees, the organization and related areas.
  • Works well under pressure with strict deadlines.
  • Available and adaptable to working fluctuating schedules, including weeknights, weekends, holidays and overtime as required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs. or more.
  • Some operations require bending, standing long hours, pushing and/or pulling objects to a machine or/on a cart.
  • Ability to distinguish colors.
