Given the Company's deep commitment to Oncology, the AbbVie U.S. Commercial Oncology organization is seeking a General Manager (GM) Hematology reporting to the VP U.S. Commercial Oncology. The GM will have full Profit & Loss accountability for the U.S.'s hematological business, which today includes Venclexta. The product, co-marketed by AbbVie's partner Genentech, is used for the treatment of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) who have a chromosomal abnormality called 17p deletion and who have been treated with at least one prior therapy. Venclexta is the first FDA-approved treatment that targets the B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL-2) protein, which supports cancer cell growth and is overexpressed in many patients with CLL. This leadership position drives marketing and sales for the U.S. Commercial Oncology Hematology business. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Direct, initiate, and oversee the development of effective sales and marketing strategies that are executable, easily communicated, and clinically supported.
Build current and future competitive advantage by understanding & addressing key customers' needs, and by demonstrating deep understanding of competitors' strategies.
Develop internal and external customer relationships that successfully drive business objectives.
Broaden AbbVie's Oncology network and presence by building scientific, academic, KOL, payer, and patient advocacy relationships.
Ensure timely guidance to senior management regarding the strategy and key brands; lead the long-range plan process, portfolio planning, annual financial plan, and licensing strategies.
Effectively champion and communicate the Hematology vision and strategies to all related stakeholders, gaining support for initiatives along the way.
Establish a productive work environment by creating trust and respect within the franchise.
Create and optimize the organizational structure to meet market/customer needs.
Create opportunities to fully develop the sales and marketing teams. Build and develop an organization reflecting a diverse workforce.
Balance business priorities and resources, adapting to the external and internal environment.
Position requires excellent communication skills and strong analytical skills to understand scientific and financial data, recognize key issues, establish priorities, and prepare high-level presentations for senior executive staff review.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities - will lead a staff of Directors.
Key Qualifications and Experiences:
10-15+ years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry in progressive commercial leadership roles with a strong foundation in marketing including successful product launch experience and ideally sales, managed care, and/or general management with prior P&L responsibility.
Oncology experience required, preferably 5+ years of Hematology operational experience at a minimum.
Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred.
U.S. experience required with strong skills and cultural sensitivity to work effectively with global teams. Demonstrated ability to influence and manage a complex set of internal and external stakeholders.
Strong executive presence and leadership skills are imperative as this leader will serve as a key role model in the organization helping to support a strong and rapidly growing Oncology business for AbbVie.
Demonstrated and consistent experience in successfully leading organizational change.
Outstanding partnering skills and the ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team and drive commercial decisions in a highly-matrixed organization to accomplish business goals.
Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead teams and have the managerial courage to make and stand by difficult decisions.
Capable of attracting and developing world-class commercial talent.
Strong communication and negotiating skills required.
