Our In Vivo Tumor Biology group in Lake County, IL has an opening for a motivated individual who is dedicated to the discovery and development of innovative therapeutics, both small molecule and biologics. The individual will conceive and execute studies in vitro and in vivo to understand how to effectively target novel therapeutics to malignant tumors. The successful candidate will generate scientific proposals on new therapeutic avenues for cancer patients and lead efforts to obtain preclinical proof of concept. Identification, development and optimization of novel methodology and techniques is required. The candidate will also act as a lead scientist in his/her area of expertise and critically evaluate relevant scientific and regulatory advances and integrate this knowledge into research or development programs. To advance oncology agents through the R&D pipeline, our scientists are expected to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team and interact with investigators from in vitro biology, translational/biomarkers, toxicology, clinical research and medicinal chemistry groups. Responsibilities:
  • Designs and executes/conducts in vivo studies (syngeneic, CDX, PDX as well as GEMMs) aimed at drug discovery in the field of apoptosis, ADC and immune-oncology
  • Integrate new information from the literature or data mining exercises into individual project(s) as well as the overall program
  • Participates in oncology target identification and validation
  • Investigates the translational value of new or advanced cancer models in vitro and in vivo
  • Presents research findings to project teams and governance bodies and prepare technical reports
  • Publishes research in peer-reviewed journals and present work at scientific conferences.
  • Maintains a high level of productivity in the lab and perform experiments in vivo
  • Works with external academic, biotechnology, and contract research organizations to advance our understanding of oncology diseases
  • May mentor/supervise a team of one or more and guide and evaluate the performance of those individuals; is accountable for the effective performance of the team/individuals.
Qualifications:
  • BS, MS, PhD or equivalent education (MD, DVM, etc.) in the field of Bioengineering/Biotechnology with typically 10-12+ (BS), 8-10+ (MS), or 0-4+ years of experience
  • Demonstrated track record of innovative scientific publications preferred
  • Expertise with rodent cancer models and the generation, maintenance and molecular analysis of 3D cultures of cancer cells is required
  • Familiar with antibody engineering and labeling techniques
  • Excellent understanding of physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology is essential
  • A practical knowledge of immunohistochemistry and image analysis is preferred
  • Good communication skills, excellent command of spoken and written English and the ability to integrate in a multidisciplinary environment are key requirements
