The AbbVie Experiential Internship Program

As an AbbVie Experiential Intern, you'll participate in a paid, ten to twelve-week summer program that is focused on providing students with robust projects throughout the summer. As an intern, you will be located at our corporate headquarters in north suburban Chicago, with housing and shuttle services for eligible students.

Department Overview - Pharmaceutics

The department is tasked with early pre-clinical API physical-chemical characterization and formulation development.

Assignment Details

This work will investigate the ways in which food impacts formulation performance and ultimately drug absorption. The efforts as outlined here will require one summer intern with a background in chemistry, pharmacy, chemical engineering, or mechanical engineering, either late in their undergraduate study or in their masters/PhD work.

The study will focus on identifying a set of key characteristic changes that take place in the GI environment in the fed state and reproducing those conditions within existing predictive test systems. The intern will take advantage of the wealth of existing knowledge within the pharmaceutics and formulation groups to modify existing test methods to capture these key conditions. The end goal of these efforts will be to create a single test method for fed-state evaluation of formulations. This test will then be optimized and subsequently validated with published as well as internal food effect data.
