Position Summary

The Associate Director of Benefits will oversee and manage the daily benefits operations for all Health & Welfare plans including the 401(k) plan to ensure they are operating in accordance with plan design and all regulations. Demonstrate current knowledge of regulatory benefit changes. Directly supervises 3 Benefits administrators.

Essential Job Functions:
• Strategy
o Conducts comprehensive analysis and in-depth studies of employee benefits programs with regard to current marketplace trends and developments, workplace demographics, competitiveness, cost containment, and legislative compliance.
o Document benchmark findings and create recommendations for enhancements, new developments and implementation to our existing benefits package.
o Keep leadership informed of new program options and improvements/efficiencies.
• Communication
o Development of coordinated communication strategy and materials to support employee understanding of all employee benefits. This includes compliance related materials as well as materials developed for the introduction of new or enhanced benefit programs.
o Lead Annual Enrollment process which includes coordination of plan renewals and self-insured plan pricing analysis with the enrollment process to ensure timely updates of the system and development of communication materials.
o Evaluate our current communication strategies. Benchmark potential use of web-based social media or other avenues to more effectively communicate.
• Process
o Lead and manage administration of employee benefits programs such health care plans; term life insurance plans; temporary and long term disability programs; and accidental death policies, 401(k) plan using current and prospective vendors
o Serve as primary contact for benefit vendors. Manage and evaluate benefit vendor services and products, identify inefficiencies and make recommendations for improved services or product improvement. Oversee vendor performance to ensure contractual standards are met. Evaluate the employee benefit programs including health and welfare plans from an administrative and service delivery perspective.
o Conduct a comparative review of our current plans to include process, service improvements and administration.
o Compile and analyze statistical data as needed for vendors, consultants, plan carriers and senior management as well as forecast trends.
o Assist in implementation and communication of any approved changes to our existing plans.
• Manage the daily benefits operations, including benefit audits, reconciliation of monthly premiums, and ensuring our benefit plans are in compliance with regulatory requirements and disclosures, including the preparation of 5500 forms for ERISA plans
• Assists in the development of the benefits budget and monitors the same during the year

Minimum Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree. Minimum 7-10 years relevant benefits experience. Supervisory experience required (with a minimum of 3 years most recently in the role of Benefits Manager). Excellent mathematical and communication skills, attention to detail and computer proficiency. General knowledge of federal and state laws relating to benefit plans and working knowledge of PPACA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA and FMLA, Disability/Absence Management programs as SOX compliance.
• Previous experience building a robust Wellness program required.
• Must have high level of strategic agility, excellent decision making and problem solving skills, and demonstrated abilities to manage through systems and drive innovation. Ability to manage/prioritize multiple projects from conception to completion, working in a fast-paced environment. Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and work under shifting deadlines in a fast paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Superior customer service and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to details.
• Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.
• Advanced level technical skills with Excel and ORACLE or equivalent HRIS system. Access database experience a plus.
• Demonstrate Customer Focus and problem solving skills.
• Must have the ability to think strategically and apply sound skills in utilizing technology for the transactional component of benefits operations.
