Position Summary

There are 2 openings in Obesity Metabolic & Muscle Diseases for Summer 2018. Each opening is described below.

Project 1:
This person will be working in Muscle Metabolism in Tarrytown, NY. The student will be working at the lab bench and will be initially identifying potential commercial antibodies for one of our groups targets.

Project 2:
This person will be working in Obesity Metabolic & Muscle Diseases in Tarrytown, NY. Hypercholesterolemia is a major risk factor for atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease. Despite recent advances in drug development designed to lower plasma lipid levels, treatment efficacy remains limited for individuals with genetic mutations in the LDL-cholesterol uptake pathway. Thus, Muscle and Metabolism Group is seeking a talented student to join our endeavor to elucidate the mechanisms of action of novel lipid-lowering therapies. The student will assist in the functional characterization of genetic and pharmacological mouse models using immunochemical methods, microscopy, and enzymatic assays. At the end of the program, the student will present the results he/she generated for the project. The student is expected to work collaboratively, be meticulous and organized, and have strong communication skills.

• Must be an undergraduate or graduate student
• Must be pursuing a degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, Biological Sciences or related
• Experience in a laboratory setting for 6 months to a year. Specifically, experience with plate assays/ELISA, SDS-PAGE/western blot, histology, fluorescence microscopy
• Must have strong attention to detail, strong time management skills, ability to balance multiple experiments, ability to troubleshoot and interpret data independently, experience with scientific literature review. Proficiency in software for data analysis (e.g., Excel, Prism, and data reporting/presentation (e.g., Word, PowerPoint) is preferred.

General Intern Program Information:
• Must be enrolled in, or accepted to, an academic program pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, PhD or PharmD
• Summer Program is full-time (~40 hrs/wk) for at least 10 weeks and is paid
• Prefer demonstrated leadership in areas such as campus activities, clubs, sports or the community
• Minimum GPA of 3.0
• You will work with a specific manager on a project(s)
• Enjoy weekly 1 hour Intern Program events: learn about other areas of the company from VPs and other employees, soft skills workshops, networking, volunteering, and more!
• Present to your team on your summer project
