Position Summary

Known for its scientific and operational excellence, Regeneron is a leading science-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, invents, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medicines for the treatment of serious medical conditions. Regeneron commercializes medicines for eye diseases, high LDL-cholesterol, atopic dermatitis and a rare inflammatory condition and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, pain, cancer and infectious diseases.

This person will be working in Embryonic Stem Cell Production in Tarrytown, NY. Here at Regeneron, we pursue the lofty goals of understanding pathogenic mechanisms underlying severe human diseases with the objective of finding effective solutions for them. Human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) can potentially be differentiated into any type of cells for understanding basic human biology as well as to model human diseases in a dish.

The student will join in their endeavor to elucidate mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases using human iPSC modeling. The student will assist in creating iPSC-based neurodegenerative disease models by engineering the genome with human disease-related mutations using CRISPR/Cas9 technology. This process involves the characterization of clonal iPSC lines using techniques in molecular biology and biochemistry. Upon successful generation, the iPSC models will be differentiated into relevant cell types (e.g. neurons, astrocytes, microglia, etc) to study the mutant phenotype and disease mechanism via immunochemical methods, microscopy, and functional assays. At the end of the program, the intern will present the results obtained within the company. The student is expected to work collaboratively, be meticulous and organized while working, and have strong communication skills.
