Position Summary

This person will be working in the Target Information Group in Tarrytown, NY. While many research organizations are involved in drug discovery, the Target Information Group (TIG) seeks to leverage its unique skills and utilize both public and proprietary information to identify new drug target opportunities. The student will help contribute to this effort by building on our understanding of disease mechanisms and drug targets through extensive data mining and analytics application development. Working with the TIG team and therapeutic focus area scientists, the intern will identify a topic of interest to both intern and research staff and will utilize a variety of public and commercial data mining tools and databases to assemble information on protein targets and/or drug target families, update corporate knowledge databases with relevant biological information/links and create customized data visualization dashboards. The student will be responsible for searching, assembling and archiving information on drug targets., disease biology and current therapies, and will create materials that facilitate communication of their findings to all research areas of the company. At the conclusion of the project, the intern will review their findings for company scientists.

• Must be an undergraduate, graduate, or PhD student
• Must be pursuing a degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or bioinformatics, or have a demonstrated career interest in biological sciences or medicine.
• Experience with Windows OS, database or spreadsheet applications, word processing and/or image processing is desirable
• Experience with public biological databases (such as NCBI, PubMed, OMIM) and/or familiarity with Excel, SharePoint, scripting languages or similar software would be preferred.
• Must have good organizational and numeracy skills.

General Intern Program Information:
• Must be enrolled in, or accepted to, an academic program pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, PhD or PharmD
• Summer Program is full-time (~40 hrs/wk) for at least 10 weeks and is paid
• Prefer demonstrated leadership in areas such as campus activities, clubs, sports or the community
• Minimum GPA of 3.0
• You will work with a specific manager on a project(s)
• Enjoy weekly 1 hour Intern Program events: learn about other areas of the company from VPs and other employees, soft skills workshops, networking, volunteering, and more!
• Present to your team on your summer project
