The AbbVie Experiential Internship Program
As an AbbVie Experiential Intern, you'll participate in a paid, ten to twelve-week summer program that is focused on providing students with robust projects throughout the summer. As an intern, you will be located at our corporate headquarters in north suburban Chicago, with housing and shuttle services for eligible students. Department Overview - Drug Product Development, NCE Analytical The New Chemical Entities - Analytical Research & Development group is responsible for the characterization and release of new chemical entity drug substance and drug product for use in human clinical trials. Assignment Details Expanding degradant isolation and identification capabilities within NCE Analytical: We are seeking an undergraduate intern to develop new drug degradation product isolation capabilities with our recently acquired supercritical fluid chromatography - mass spectrometry (SFC-MS) system. The intern will initially be trained on SFC-MS by senior scientists. Following training, the intern will be tasked with developing screening methods and evaluating SFC orthogonal (compared to reverse phase HPLC) separation capabilities. Building on those skills, the intern, working with the Analytical Purification Sciences group, attempt to scale the in-house developed SFC methods from the analytical scale to the semi-preparatory scale for collection and identification of the degradation products. Time permitting; the intern will evaluate additional separation modes (e.g. normal phase and HILIC) for their suitability towards degradant collection and isolation. Qualifications Basic:
  • Completed at least one year of college education before beginning internship
  • Must be enrolled in school the semester following your internship
  • Undergraduate Level Student majoring in Analytical Chemistry
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA: 3.0/4.0
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship (students on an F1 visa with CPT can be accommodated).
