Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting and SOX Compliance

Position description and scope:

This newly created position will be responsible for participating in a variety of key finance and accounting activities including month-end close, clinical trial accrual accounting, financial reporting, documentation and monitoring of policies and internal controls for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and other administrative functions.

Job responsibilities

Accounting Duties:

  1. Perform month end close procedures, including recording journal entries, completing account reconciliations and drafting internal financial statements
  2. Directly monitor pre-clinical/clinical study and other key contracts to determine GAAP expense estimates for clinical trial and other contract accruals
  3. Hold discussions with people outside of finance to ensure understanding and alignment between third party (contract) work being performed and the accounting impact of such work
  4. Assist with accounting research, including assessment of technical accounting standards on corporate transactions or agreements
  5. Interact with external audit firm on financial statement audit process
  6. Assist in the compilation of quarterly, annual, and periodic SEC filings, including footnote preparation and adhering to disclosure requirements

SOX Compliance Duties:

  1. Manage the Sarbanes-Oxley process, including:
    • Maintain and update internal documentation
    • Monitor compliance with SOX requirements and ensure timely execution
    • Identify process improvements, implement change, and ensure best practices
    • Facilitate communication with SOX third party consultants and external auditors



Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent
  • CPA certificate is preferred
  • Four to six years work experience; some public accounting experience is preferred
  • Strong technical accounting background
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Combination of public accounting / private industry experience is ideal
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Great Plains Dynamics experience preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
