The Foundational Neuroscience Center (FNC) at Cambridge, Massachusetts is seeking to expand its bioinformatics expertise to partner with existing computational scientists to provide an interface for lab scientists to interpret big data. The FNC is a new research group within AbbVie Neuroscience and its role is to provide deep biological expertise and cutting edge science to elucidate disease mechanisms and discover potential new drug targets. The FNC has access to a wide range of proteomic and genomic data via consortia, and we are generating our own single cell transciptomic data - hence the need to recruit a skilled and dedicated bioinformatician.
We are looking for an exceptional candidate for a computational/systems biologist position. The candidate will collaborate with world class research scientists and be afforded with necessary computational resources to expedite scientific research for target identification, disease mechanism understanding, patient stratification and clinical biomarker discovery through computational approaches. The successful candidate ideally will be an experienced neuroscientist/biologist, preferably with knowledge of neurodegenerative diseases, with extensive computational knowledge and a track record of functioning well in a cross-functional environment. Good written and verbal communication and organization skills are required. Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Collaborate with research & clinical scientists to execute bioinformatics analysis, particularly focusing on functional interpretation and hypothesis generation that support discovery and pre-clinical studies such as new target identification and biomarker development.
  • Collaborate with computational biologists and software engineers to build custom analysis pipelines.
  • Identify relevant internal and external data and knowledge resources and propose integration mechanisms for immunology data integration.
  • Be abreast of most current systems analysis methodology and algorithms and introduce them in-house when appropriate.
  • Communicate analytical analysis verbally, in writing and via presentations for scientific and technical audiences.



Bachelor's Degree with 16+ years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in Biological Sciences (Neuroscience preferred) with strong quantitative background, involving the analysis of large scale complex data such as next generation sequencing, microarray etc. with 10+ years of experience.
  • Hands on experience in genomics and genetic data analyses using existing and custom pipelines are required.
  • Knowledge of relevant tools (IPA, MetaCore, GSEA, DAVID, etc.) and databases (GEO, GTEX, GWAS catalog, etc.) and experience in developing custom computational analysis pipelines
  • Fluent in scientific scripting languages such as R, Perl/Python. Very comfortable working in both Linux and Windows environments.
  • Working experience with protein/protein interaction networks such as STRING, Interactome and network visualization software such as Cytoscape is preferred.
  • Working experience with relational database (Oracle, MySQL, PostgresSQL) is preferred.
