Bell Biosystems, Inc. is a life science post-startup company in Berkeley, California that is combining synthetic biology, cell biology, molecular and medical imaging to create disruptive products for regenerative medicine, oncology, and other cell-based technologies.  Our first-in-class product, the Magnelle®, is derived from non-pathogenic bacteria that produce magnetic nanoparticles from intracellular iron.  This provides researchers the unprecedented ability to track the viability and location of transplanted cells in vivo using non-invasive MRI. 

We are seeking a highly motivated, independent, creative, and energetic individual to support our cell biology scientists.

Responsibilities Overview:

  • Maintaining mammalian cells in culture, including stem cells and T cells
  • Performing immunocytochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry
  • Conducting molecular biology experiments including PCR, Western blots, and cloning
  • Assisting with general laboratory maintenance, including purchasing supplies necessary to conduct experiments and adhering to laboratory safety standards\


Education & Training:  MS in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry with the following

  • Demonstrated experience with mammalian cell culture
  • Demonstrated experience with fluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry
  • Experience with basic molecular biology techniques, such as DNA and RNA purification, PCR, qPCR, gene cloning, and western blotting
  • Experience performing general laboratory duties such as preparing media reagents, and basic maintenance of equipment

Ideal Candidate Characteristics 
This person is a flexible self-starter who is detail orienated, responsive to deadlines, has the ability to multitask and can communicate effectively in a team environment. Research must be accurate and complete. The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • 2+ years of experience conducting research in an academic or industry setting
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Exemplary written, verbal, and presentation skills; must be comfortable interacting with senior management
  • Excellent project management and time management skills. Must be able to competently see tasks through to completion based on initial guidance
