PaxVax is seeking a highly motivated Head of Technical Operations with experience inbiologicals manufacturing processes and the ability to effectively manage the Technical Operations unit to ensure manufacturing and supply chain operations according to internal and external guidelines and requirements. Reporting directly to the VP of Technical Operations based in Switzerland, the Head of Technical Operations will manage commercial production, supply chain and engineering and interact cross-functionally with local operational departments in San Diego (Quality, Regulatory, and Project Management), PaxVax’s corporate office in Redwood City, CA (Finance, Sales and Marketing, and Legal), and operational counterparts at PaxVax’s manufacturing operation in Bern, Switzerland.  


  • Planning of operation and project activities as well as resources for Technical Operations according to strategic plans
  • Manage Technical Operations to ensure sufficient stock levels of intermediates and final product at all times
  • Manage cost centre budgets and ensure cost efficiency within Technical Operations
  • Lead team and ensure alignment of Supply Chain, Production and Engineering/Qualification on processes, projects and supply
  • Develop, mentor, and cross-train Production employees on virus production activities in the Development department
  • Support R&D department with tasks requested of Supply Chain and Engineering /Qualification
  • Lead harmonization of global best practices across the global Technical Operations department
  • Maintain a fully functional unit in San Diego as an integral part of the global TechOps organisation
  • Align procedures and communication with other departments (Quality, R&D, M&S and Switzerland business units)
  • Establish readiness to take on new commercial manufacturing projects  


  • Bachelor’s Degree in scientific discipline
  • 12+ years of related experience in pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical field
  • 10+ years of leadership and management experience
  • Excellent know-how of quality assurance and quality control of biologicals or pharmaceutical products according to cGMP requirements; ability to design Quality and business processes
  • Experience with biotechnological processes and biologicals manufacturing processes
  • Profound know how of manufacturing quality principles (cGMP)
  • Experience in lean operations / lean sigma
  • Understanding of financial and project management
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience leading, managing, and mentoring TechOps teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Passion for results and for further developing the TechOps expertise within the organization
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity
  • Proven strategic and conceptual thinking and problem-solving capabilities
