We are seeking a highly motivated, full-time research technician to join our fast-paced biotechnology start-up: Phase Diagnostics’ is a fast-growing biotechnology start-up company developing cutting-edge diagnostic tools to tackle today’s largest healthcare challenges. The core technology was developed at the Dept. of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles with the goal to disrupt the global diagnostic industry through their proprietary sample preparation techniques. The position will work closely with our R&D team to achieve product development objectives. Phase Diagnostics fully believes in maximizing the potential for its employees, whether it is through expanding responsibilities, presenting challenges or mentorship. Our company is currently expanding from an early stage start-up, and will be both offering and expecting our team members to grow into advancing roles and responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Working collaboratively with the R&D team and individually to execute research experiments and product optimization to drive overall objectives
  • Perform relevant literature searches to elucidate and generate novel ideas
  • Report and communicate experiment results and progress to management
  • Operate and maintain equipment
  • Prepare laboratory and research materials (e.g., buffers, product components, intermediates)
  • Laboratory documentation and maintenance (e.g., inventory, record keeping, cleaning, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university either in a life science or engineering field OR have 2 years work experience at a biotechnology / life science related position.
  • Fast learner who can follow instructions closely and perform complex protocols
  • Self-motivated with strong motivation to take initiative
  • High attention to detail
  • Team oriented and places high value on developing a strong team culture
  • Effectively communicates scientific ideas and results
  • Ability to grow from constructive criticism and mentorship
  • Desire to work in a fast pace and demanding start-up environment (weekend hours when needed)
  • Enjoys problem solving and critical thinking with an inquisitive mindset

Preferred Technical Experience with several or more of the following:

  • 1+ years Research lab experience in academia or industry
  • Technical experience working with:
    • Point-of-care testing (e.g., lateral flow immunoassay, ELISA, portable PCR, dipstick)
    • Molecular diagnostics (e.g., NAAT, PCR, qPCR, ddPCR, Next Generation Sequencing, Mass Array)
    • DNA extraction (e.g., ethanol precipitation, commercial nucleic acid extraction kits)
    • Gel electrophoresis
    • Antibody conjugation chemistry
